What else do you want in a OD/DIST pedal?

Hi fellow guitarist,
with the vast numbers of OD/DIST pedals, boutique and the BOSSs, Ibanezs, Digitechs out there available easily, i am wondering what kind of feature/sound is still missing or still leave you wanting more?

Well, to be frank, actually i am thinking of building one for myself, and i'm thinking having a "3 in one pedal", while still remaining compact, it shall have 3 distinctive settings ,i.e. a clean boost, OD and metal drive, all analog and instantly footswitchable (not via switches).

Maybe if it sounds good enough, have something you want that's missing in your present setup , at a reasonable price to you, i can build a few more to go around, ie. more cost effective.

thanks!

OD and metal drive? Isn't that a little too intense? Lol..

What do I look for in an OD? Hmmmm..

Crazy compressor, sweet boost, and a section that depending on their 'toneplugs', can let you have variable OD circuits by choice.. Plus immaculate build quality!

So for a 3-in-1 pedal I'd prefer:
A compressor that doesn't squish too much, more of adds a little something to the tone; a clean boost that is swappable by a toggle switch to pre/post the OD; and an OD that can cover various shades similar to those like the Sigma Drive (with a toggle switch; TS-style mid-hump, BB1-style flat EQ, and perhaps a third slightly gritty higher gain circuit)

I love those switch cover. Look cool on the pedal. As if you gonna explode something.

WOW they look like they're a part of a control room for nuclear missile launches!

Anyway what I want in an OD pedal is simply turning the AC/DC sound I have into chugga chugga madness. More gain, more sustain and not so much tone coloring, but capable of it

I'd prefer a multi-distortion pedal that has overdrive, crunch and high-gain all in one... With analogue circuitry. But it's too much to ask for and if made, it'll be expensive, so... sticking with multi-effects processors for now.

interesting stuff indeed. some i will try out , some probably wun (for the make egg and bacon ones you probably need a demanding wife or girlfriend, not a pedal, so that they'll ask you to make them instead :) )

as for working well with a amp simulator, not sure what is the problem with your existing pedal so far?

I would really love it if can get a box contains distortion+overdrive+tuner. So can just carry this box for quick jam session.

knowing the various sounds you need is not enough, eg. heavy, light, boost. is not enough imho. you need to know what TYPES you need as well. and different people have different preferences.

marshall crunch? marshall high gain? mesa high gain? dumble styled OD? clean boost? thick/thin is not good enough, do know that your guitar plays a part in the equation.
thats why so many of us here hop from pedal to pedal, eliminating the ones we dont like. have fun!

3 channel, each with dedicated eq, gain knob, contour knob, feedback / presence knobs, master volume with boost switch capable of 20db clean boost...

But hey? Who am I kidding... Hahaha...

I decided that if I need a wide range of tones, I'll just use my multi-effects processor. Good enough for me. With regards to single distortion pedals... This is what I'd very much like.

I'd like a distortion pedal that can produce the exact same tone that I got when I set my amp on a dirty sound and boosted it with my Digitech Bad Monkey. Really fat, crunchy, etc. I've tried quite a few pedals and none of them has ever been able to replicate this tone.

It's the kind of tone (ok, not the same but somewhat similar) to what Phil X gets with a Les Paul on his Fretted Americana videos on Youtube. Perhaps I haven't tried enough pedals, or like they say, pedals can never get you amp distortion.

Okay stick with me on this..

Input, into a booster, with a switch for a full range boost, a midrange boost, and a germanium treble booster. That goes in to an amp like, Marshall type overdrive, something like a JTM45. Give me an amp tone stack, treble mids bass presence. That goes into a clean boost section. Simple one knob volume boost. Send and return jacks so that I can run other drive pedals into it so I can use the stack the treble booster with them, and the clean boost will always be the last. Think the Tim..

Okay.. Who's gonna build me one?

LOL... and here I thought I was demanding...

one pedal that has a card slot where u use ur computer to adjust the sounds within it and still make it adjustable using the eq's on the pedal, i hope it is analog tho, but if it's digital, still cool tho..i think gibson will do it wif their dusk tigerobotics.
