Hi guys.
What electric guitar do you guys recommend for a newbie at guitar like me? I just know how to play some basic cords.
My budget is about $300-$400 for the whole set (guitar, amp, and other stuff)
I would like to play hard rock songs and maybe metal songs when i get better at the guitar.

I read the SX GG1K review and it dosnt look bad..its within my budget too. SX GG1K - Page 4 - SOFT = Music In Singapore
One of my friends told me to buy a Ibanez but they are like more expensive than the SX GG1K. What im worried is that the SX GG1K will spoil faster than the Ibanez cus SX GG1K is a chinese brand...lol. What do you guys think?

Chinese brand got no meaning.. No matter where it is made in, or where it originate from, a good guitar is a good guitar yes?
Firstly, what are your influences?

Ah hell.. Recommend Timbre strat.. Maybe a small Roland Cube or Vox Pathfinder amp..

Well that sure narrows it alot.. Try aiming for LTDs available, BC Rich guitars, if possible an Ibanez RG (not their GIO models, but maybe a second hand RG)
For a newbie, try starting with a fixed bridge guitar.. It will save you tonnes of trouble!

+1! Fixed-bridges allow stability and you can easily switch between drop tunings and standard tunings (most hard rock stuff are in drop tuning nowadays). Metallica, Guns 'N' Roses stuff, I'd recommend the SX pack. Fixed-bridge, Les Paul design, humbucking pickups. Personally I own a Gio model Ibanez and I love it very much, but its a GSA, not a GRG.

The GRGs are not worth it in my opinion... Can easily get a second hand RG321 (standard range, fixed-bridge, mahogany body!!!) for the same price as a brand new GRG (budget range).

Get a LTD 50-series from Davis. They cost between $300 to $500. They sound great for distortion and overdriven tones.

Another recommendation is a Hamer or craftman guitar from citymusic. They are great for their price. - Welcome to City Music!

Or lastly, you can try Timbre strat from standard value. STANDARD VALUE

I forgot.. You can try Stagg guitars as well.. Awesome stuff.. The tele blew me away, and it only costs 200+?
But that ain't for heavy music.. Maybe try their other models?

There are Ibanez guitars that are Made in Indonesia, and there are many less popular guitar brands most people would deem crap that are luthiered in USA.

Basically, country of origin matters like squat cos consideration of quality of construction and tone should be based on other guitar owners' prior experience in playing and owning the guitar and gear.

Eg: Marshall is generally well accepted as one of the giants amp makers. But a lot of people are disappointed with the MG series, especially the smaller wattage amps.

There are some Ibanez Jumpstart guitar packages, though: GRX70DX and GSA6. I don't know whether Swee Lee carries them nor how much it will cost.

Thanks for all your replies. I think im going to go for the SX GG1k or the craftsman guitar city music bundle. I am more of a bedroom player as i am not in a band. What bundle do you guys think i should get? The amp in the city music bundle is better than the one in the sx gg1k. I read some where that a good amp is important if you are a bedroom player.

Bingo! In fact, a good amp is important irregardless if you are bedroom player or not. Some guitarist's set up is a simple signal chain of guitar to amp with no pedals in between, so that basically shows how important an amp is.

Good research. We encourage you to read some more.

As for the City Music vs the Davies package, I would think the City Music one. The amp is nice enough to keep on a longer term, and the package as a whole has a slightly higher chance of reselling at a good price.
