What defines a bands genre?

best the bands themselves tell what category they fall under.

metal is metal. if it have growling in it, metal with growl. if got rap in it, metal with rap, if its Lim kim park, its lousy metal. if no singing, instrumental metal, if lyrics about death, metal with lyrics about death, if lyrics on satan and shit, ...u get the idea.

metal is metal, further dividing it will make it confusing for people.

Okay very enlightening thread. But yeah, it's already pretty confusing with the current sub genres and yet people are creating MORE sub genres to brand their bands. In the end, we just listen to music which pleases us, no matter which genre it is. So yeah. Music is music.
