i too feel that a puny 5w amp cant do much hehehe...

we must not be dismissive of the small numerics attached to the amp wattage in view of its offerings in entirety- that's my lesson with the 5W Valve Jr...

Why hasn't anyone recommended the Fender Champion 600? .

you must have missed the Champion 600 buzz, then... it was much talked about when it debuted here.

Applaudable, but won't the bass response be significantly lower compared to the rest of the regular 10"/12" speaker combos?

That said, IMHO, the Valbee is a companion amp, an amp to fudge around with when you get bored with your main amp.

reduced bass response- one should see that coming when it comes to tranny driver-equipped amp. regardless of the make of the ware, if it sounds good & serves a purpose, it's game for the individual. we sometimes evaluate a certain item in light of a less objective comparison. when one buys a Mini Cooper, one shouldn't complain about its lack of a Mercedes-like boot space.

IMHO, the Valbee, despite being praise-worthy, isn't something to die for.

they are useful, they work for me but not all are appealing. i'm not a favour-pedal type, so as long as they serve my purpose, i accept them

these 2 are worlds apart. if the Valve Jr is too similar in presentation to my JVM, it wouldn't make sense to acquire it. i'm in search of an American-type high gain tube amp & i think i'm done as far as my amp arsenal is concerned...

yup, the JVM can do high gain superbly but it has a rich British voicing. Peavey's Triple XXX is top of my list right now
