yah its not rocket science.. the basics of it is, that the truss rod is this rod inside your neck. You can tighten it or loosen it to make it more convex or concave. You need to let it sit for a while because the wood in the neck will take time to settle.
If you still have problems with neck relief even after you get pro help from a good tech, then i'd suggest you ditch the neck (if its a bolt-on) and just buy a new one from usacustomguitars or warmoth. I think one of the shops in peninsula stocks warmoths, but do know what you're paying for. Its pretty hit and miss, and necks do play a large part in the tone equation. Case in point. I changed a neck cos of a bad warping problem. I got a much smoother playing neck, with very good relief. But the neck was a lot brighter (still getting used to it).
