Hi all, i've been learning classical guitar for 2 years now and wants to start playing eletric.

Hope you guys can give me some intro on the technical stuffs about electric guitar thx!

Since im not really new to guitar, im deciding on buying a more decent guitar and amp as compared to those $200 packages. Was wondering if there are more ex packages out there or should i buy them separately or divert more money on either one? My total budget is 1k-

Hey, give us some info about the genre you're into, what songs you normally play / want to play etc.
And any specific shapes of guitar, floating / fixed bridge, etc.
Basically more info lah. Without that very difficult to help man. Haha.
Cheers. :)

Buy them seperately, packages arent good mostly.

First answer this questions so we can help you more:
-What kind of music do you intend to play? Rock/Jazz/Pop/Metal/etc
-Do you have a rough image of what you want your guitar to look like? Post an image.

Then go here to read up on guitar/purchasing a new guitar:

After that,go here if you have the time to read on Amps/pedals:

Now with all that information in your head, here's a few tips from me:
-Avoid buy guitars with a floating tremolo at this stage, they most likely will not stay in-tune well.
-Try out every guitar in store, see which one you like best, dont confine yourself with one brand or range.
-Never buy a guitar for the sake of looks, buy them for thier tone and playablity.
-Amp first, guitar second. Buy a good amp, then choose the guitar with your remaining cash.
-Try not to get any amp above 30w, it just isnt too practical in Singapore especially, if you live in a HDB/Condo where neighbours are around.
-Go for solid state amps for the moment, good tube amps cost more and it means you have to cut cost on the guitar. Besides, solid states like the roland cube have built in effects for you to play with and you may not be able to tell the difference between a tube and solid state. Your choice.

Hope this helps.

If you want versatility, consider a Squier Strat. However, get those in the California series that comes with a humbucker. I find that it is quite a versatile guitar able to play classic Strat cleans and loud distortions very well. You WOULD need to change the pups once you decided on what type of genre you wanted to play though. It's a pretty good jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none guitar. And it's probably going for less then $300, first hand.

If you're looking for an amp, get one of those with in-board effects, such as Roland Cubes, Line 6 Spiders, etc. They're not the most outstanding amps, but they give you a lot of different sounds right out of the box. You can use them to emulate a lot of different sounds without spluging on the effects pedals. Granted, the sounds won't be THE best but, hey. At least you get to emulate them

Hey guys thanks so much for the input, sry i was busy a while ago to reply.

Anw, i still know very little about electric guitar, or even music altogether, so pardon me =D

First of all, i am not really sure what the genre is for the musics that i like.
Songs Im planning to learn/finished learning:
Price of freedom -- FF7 Crisis core
Battle theme -- FF7
Boss battle -- FF7
He's a pirate -- PotC
To zanarkand -- FFX
Canon
Fantasie impromptu
Sonata No.8 Pathatique (or simply V3--O2jam or Beethoven virus)

I suppose it falls under alternative rock? I do like many of the short guitar solos i hear in pop songs too.

Second, about the looks of the guitar. I definitely see A LOT of fender stratocaster around, but imo, i dont really like them but wouldn't mind if i end up with one. The one that i like is like X-shaped, which are called exporer, voyager, dean, ironbird.

those are video game music.. and the ones u listed are not alternative rock.. just instrumental rock with a metal slant.. and some of those FF tunes by nobuo uematsu have a classical influence.. u also listed some classical pieces.. so u r into rock/metal/neo-classical

since u like that kinda shapes, go to davis. they have lots of guitars with such designs.

basically ur'e into lead/solo sounds..
i humbly recommend 24 fret guitars frm schecter or ibanez..range frm 400-700 bucks..
u will discover ur tone n preferred sound as u progress over e yrs/mths..wen tat happens
u may prefer a certain brand of guitar, amp, and pedals...
as fr amps i recommend above $200 range frm peavey or marshall..
fr pedals..dun need to..fr a start can just use e overdrives avail on e amps..
there are cheaper or even more expensive sets...depends on ur budget
just my 2 cents n practice makes perfect...\m/@_@\m/
