Wanna Buy A Bridge Pickup

premonition

Im getting a guitar made in about 2 weeks. Its gonna be the chuck shuldiner BC Rich remake.8)

Its gonna have a rosewood fretboard(24 frets) with maple neck, a 1 meg volume pot(torres engineering), no tone pot, a fixed bridge and just one pickup

I need help in choosing a good bridge pickup.

Something that can deliver hard hitting rhythm tones and brilliant lead tones. I love the chuck shuldiner rhythm tone and the alex skolnick lead tone. What do u guys suggest?

PS- I prefer passives to actives

Sorry I 'mountain turtle' (sua koo), never heard of the two mentioned artistes' tones, but can try Duncan SH-5 Duncan Custom. Comparable to JB in output, but i think sounds fuller, more bass, less trebly.

Eh... The father of death metal doesn't use a Duncan JB or Custom, those are too weak for the kind of music...

premonition, the father of death metal used the dimarzio X2N i believe, at least thats what I read up. Its the highest output passive bridge humbucker by Dimarzio. So if you want get a bit of chuck's tone, thats the pup to get!

Other artistes who have used the X2N include Micheal Romeo, althought Romeo has switches to EMGs I think?

Btw, The Sound of Perseverance is my absolute favourite of all the albums by Death!

Cheerio!

I was just wondering if the X2N is a little too excessive. I mean will it be noisy and all cause its supposed to be the loudest passive ever!

Well, check harmony central for what people think of it...

The general view is that the pup overpowers the neck pup and sometimes sounds muddy.. All of which can be easily solved by lowering the pup and besides, you don't have a neck pup. :)

If you wanna go active for quietness, then you got to consider if you have the space for the battery. If not enough space, you wanna cut out a hole in your new axe for the battery compartment?

I believe you can easily get an X2N on luther's classified... just post there... it usually goes for $80.

Btw, i love the way it looks.

Shuldiner has the X2N in his guitar, so naturally, that might be the most sensible option.

the X2N is an excellent choice ...
another option is the Duncan distortion apart from the invader..

with a 1 meg pot...it shld sound awesome..

u might like the option to split the coil for clean sound..

The EMG will require space for the battery. Unless you have that, you got to route an extra compartment. To that I'd say no to EMGs.

The Bill Lawrence hasn't been receiving as much good reviews as the X2N.

Chuck himself used the X2N.

Since you want to sound like your hero, why don't you just go for the X2N? If you don't like it, you can sell it and easily change to EMGs or what not.

Ok if I buy the X2N what else will I need to get the best sound? Also, does the X2N come with manual, wiring, its own volume pot etc

Wow, do you really need such a high output PU like X2N? Brute force is not always the best sounding one.

Well, what I can say right now, is that the X2N is a versatile pickup. Its not all metal only. I can do funk with it. 8)
