Hi, planning to go to swee lee sale to buy 2 pedals, a wah pedal and a distortion pedal.Does anyone have any suggestions? Not too expensive please, still a student.

No need to wait for the Swee Lee sale. :) I just got the VOX V847 wah pedal from CityMusic at $75. The pedal has a very broad frequency sweep and the sweep seems very smooth. Sounds great clean or distorted. I would say it is worth to get :)

and it comes with a VOX bag ;)

I definitely agree, currently own one thats has a true bypass mod done, without the mod it has already replace my dunlop jimi hendrix wah straight away lol......the vox 847a is definitely more hendrix than the dunlop hendrix signature lol!

Distortion

haha for the distortion get a ds-1(mod) bro haha always recommad that, if metal i guess a metall muff with top boost.
Haha this is what i prefer :D

The V847 got come with instructions? This is my first pedal...I am a guitar noob...

What instructions do you need? Instructions only for installation of battery, how to on/off it etc This pedal does not require any settings ;)

No instructions, cos none is needed. Plug in, play it and be dazzled.

I own one myself. Unmodded. The tone that it gives when it is off... doesn't significantly change, IMO. BEEEEUUUTTTIIIFFULLL clean and mild driven tones.

Pretty okay for hi-gain but I personally feel that it doesn't sound full enough at that setting if used on its own. Been trying out Blodstyre's Artec Power wah, and I felt that it hits closer to the hi-gain tone I want.

As for distortion pedal, wah... this is one of the hardest tones to be satisfied with. Yet to find mine (though for hi-gain I'm pretty happy with my Uber Metal and Gearbox amp drive settings ).

Easiest answer would be the DS-1. Standard stuff that's pretty great for future modding. And yes, Swee Lee should have it. :)

Are you planning to mod your pedal? If yes, DS-1 would be better option. Not sure if you can mod a Cool Cat. Cool Cat is far cheaper.

Tone wise, can't comment. Haven't tried the CC. Ultimately, best to try both and see which one you like.

Not sure if Cool Cat is selling at Swee Lee, though...

Hi i would recommend the Sansamp GT2 if you dont have a tube amp. 1 coz i does a great job in emulating 3 classic amp sounds 1) Fender 2) Marshall 3) Mesa. Seconldy it servers as a great recording DI box as i have tried it. IMO i would only go for the ds-1 (Mod) or the crunch box if i had a tube amp as they seem to excel when they are driving an already over driven amp. But to be honest it is a matter of taste, i personally use the distortion from my amp and not pedals.

2) As for the Wah i think you have to ask yourself which players wah sound do you like? For example Jimi, wylde or Slash? If u are goin for the classic rock and funk sound the vov 847 would be great. But if u are goin for a heavy modern sound maybe u might wanna try the Zakk wylde wah or the dime bag ones however they cost much more.

I hope this helps.

Uh....Vox wah is good i agree....but its more for clean "wakka wakka" tones rather than with dirt....for dirt its a little CMI in my opinion. Even a stock Crybaby does dirt better but the vox v847 is pretty much king in the cleans department...with the Budda being its closest boutique equal.

Get the Vox modded, and thats a different story.

You guys are making me want the Vox V847. :D

If you want the Cool Cat pedals, TYMC at Penin has it. I would recommend Ibanez SM7 or EHX Metal Muff for your distortion unit.

Haha. Get it, mus. It is really a good buy. Furthermore there is a discount at City Music now. For distortion, Pinnacle 2 is a good unit provided you have higher budget.
