theres not enough vulgar words to describe their tightness[/QUOTE said:
haha im so so sorry, seriously but this comment is too clever and funny. i actually refrained myself from laughing in the office.

low blow man, seriously low blow with a spike glove. haha. actually, to be honest. having someone like daryl isnt such a bad idea, though its a little harsh but the good thing about it is that you would finally REALLY know the honest thoughts of what people think about your songs but i dont blame anyone though, everyone has a limit. not many people can take such a feedback.

i use to get the harshest critics imaginable about my songwriting before too as well man, i know how mad it makes you feel but you're kinda handling it the wrong way.

just take the worst critic and use that as a fuel to write something or improve yourself or the band. from the most embarassing comments ever received till the point now i have people remembering the lyrics of the songs ive wrote and to the point i have random people coming up to me and remembering and humming the little guitar details of my band's song.

i hope people dont mistake this for ego or anything, just sharing all this moments.

hmm, well for me... when it comes to songwriting, my only goal is not to simply just write a song just to have 7,8 songs but to actually take the time to write something that would actually make someone who doesnt even listen to that genre to actually stop and take a listen.

thats the only thing that really gives me the sense of accomplishment. im not confident enough to say whether i have accomplished that now but yea, in my opinion maybe you should have uploaded the newest song that you guys have instead of a old song written back in 06? (did i read this right? 06 right?)

a new song always shows how much you would have improved.

anyways, as you can see. im just very very bored at work. so i have nothing else better to do then type all this, i was so bored i went to check online for weird news around the world and then what the *#%# ...

some pig held some lady hostage for 10 days?

what the.

now that im home, im listening to the song now. im not really into this kinda genre but i guess you guys have to work on the vocals and the drums, its lacking energy.

then again, i dont really listen to stuff like this, so i wouldnt be able to give a full detail review of the song.

but hey the song has potential though. you guys dont seem bad as how this thread makes you look. hahah just learn to accept bad criticism laaaaa! for god sakes and you'll be fine! your band isnt bad or anything, just need some work here and there to make things sound alright.

mmmm even though i get what your trying to say daryl, i still feel what you said is just damn cruel.

bad day?

dont take it out on them la.

I think daryl is just being honest. Harsh criticism is far more constructive and better than gentle and not wanting to hurt the person's feelings. It's a real world out there - the layman listener doesn't care if the musician likes it or not. to most listeners, there is only two kinds of music - good and bad. They don't care if the guitar solo is fantastic as long as the overall sound is great to their years. Daryl was constructive enough to break down the parts of the song he felt didn't work and gave the reasons why they don't. That's constructive criticism I think and it doesn't always have to be pretty and sugar-coated. Just my 5 cents of course. I haven't heard the song for myself yet!

hmmmm. ok. like I said we're a new band, and we save the best for live performances. I think the reason it was dull because we don't have the right gadgets, drummer just wanted his drums simple instead of his usual drum-rolls during recording. And I do agree my vocals needing better range, the guitar solo also wasn't greatly done as my guitarist wanted the sweeps to be done live only, and yeah overall I think we need ALOT of work, I do realise that. We'll practice more. As a band.

Potential? I think we do have potential. And btw this was our very first song out of 24+ we have created over the past 2-3 years together, and we decided on 13 for the 'album', but then again, I would look into some of our songs to improve, and most importantly none of the other songs sounded like Marionette. I think.

And yeah we aren't as tight after one of our guitarist left, and the lack of money too, I suppose, to jam alot more.

Thank you softies for the comments, it was deeply appreciated.

P.S; why didn't anyone mention about the bassline? it's pretty groovy btw. And I forgot to ask you softies to use an earpiece or headphone to listen to the song, as it sonds better IMO. well anything sounds better with the 2 gadgets I mentioned, but then again, I think it changes the mood of it all.

Hope more people keep tuning in to our myspace and keep commenting on the current songs there. I really need more comments. Please do state your preferred genre and age too. It would help.

lol dude... you seem to post a thread here asking for opinions and all you wanna hear is people praising your song and you hit down all constructive criticism? I think the comments given by the rest are not personal. Rather, they are very viable opinions about your song.

My honest opinions now. vocalist was flat mainly through the whole song... very off... aside from needing greater range, you really need to start listening to the recording you have done.

With regards to your comments, the drummer need not be complex with bombastic rolls to sound good. what's important is whether there is groove in his playing. You said he wanted to keep it simple, yet there is zero groove in his playing. It's as if he's playing for the sake of playing. It's immature to equate keeping the drums simple to it being plain and boring. Simplicity + a good groove are sometimes essential and extremely suitable for such genres. But in yours, it's boring and groove-less drumming.

I noticed one comment which i thought i should point out. You said after one guitarist left, you guys aren't as tight. funny... comparatively suppose to be easier to get tighter instead...

So my opinion, stop being so self-delusional. dun think of cutting albums this and that first. Get your playing, tightness and originals at least to a decent standard first and think of performing in public etc.

I'm completely neutral about the songs because I still haven't heard the songs, so I can't comment on them.

But to be honest - not that honesty seems to be something you can handle - don't ask for good criticism if you're just going to rebuke it.

Think of it this way.
You can have all the reasons in the world why this song could be or should be better.
You can explain why the tightness can be better, or argue that the bass is groovy etc
But at the end of the day
It is the responsibility of a serious musician to ensure the universal quality of the product BEFORE you release it to the public - be it for a niche or mainstream market.

If you are doing it just for the sake of fun jamming and all that, it's fine. There's not much of a need for that. But since I'm guessing you guys are serious musicians - cutting an album and all that - be prepared for the criticisms, not just the praises. In the end, it's just going to make your product better for consumer consumption. The sooner you can understand that relationship and responsibility, the quicker you can improve on things and the better your band will get. It's not always easy to swallow I know, because this music is your hard labour of love, but it is the reality of the music industry.

Either you're a perfectionist, or you get left behind. It's as simple as that.

hahaha i just realised this thread is still alive. yes levan we are serious musicians. and my guitarist and drummer lives around your area hahaha. as what they proclaim.

meh, i know its my fault. so dont worry.

Songwise, the song i asked you guys to listen is not a proper recording, just a demo. Rough and raw.

We will record another track soon on the 25th of October. I will update you guys. And like someone asked, we will record our newest composition.

oh ya, if anyone's interested, this 18th of October I got a gig at the arts house for Ultrasound. Come down, because we're better live. PM me for ticketing prices because our band has promotional rates ;P

Well, good luck for the set then! Just try and best and play more gigs and you'll get better not just live, but in the studio as well. :)
