using boost pedals to boost ..err.. pedals

hey guys,

i've been reading up on boost pedals/line drivers, in the likes of seymour duncan pickup booster, mxr micro amp and so on. i came upon a forum with someone saying that a boost pedal can be used to drive an overdrive pedal, or at least increase the dynamics and sensitivity of the pedal.
Anyone knows if that's true and how it works, especially for solid state pedals, since i don't own any tube pedals.

Also, just curious, how would a boost pedal into a solid state amp sound like? i'm guessing just increase in volume without increase in drive? i've heard boosting a solid state amp sounds horrible, yet i've also read that it sounds like a fine volume boost, just without increase in drive like in a tube amp.

hope you guys can enlighten me a bit :). thanks!

it depends what kind of boost also, if its a clean boost like the ones u mentioned it wont add so much gain to pedals but if it a treble boost or a boost that adds volume and gain then your amps/pedals will be more overdriven.

When pushing a pedal with a boost, the placement makes alot of difference. If u place the boost before the pedal it will increase gain and not much volume but if u place it after, it will increase more volume. Most people place boosts after their OD/distortions.

usually if u boost your SS amp the volume increases and certain characteristics of the amp change only but if u play loud enough and boost the SS amp it will get overdriven. But it doesnt do it as well as tube amps and it harder to get to that volume in your bedroom cos SS amps have higher headroom and dont breakup easily.
