It allows one to plug the guitar directly into the computer, for recording or whatever else.

i dun think that is possible isnt it. u should be looking at an audio interface which is basically like guitar plug in into interface interface usb out into computer for direct recording. unless u can find a 1/4 to usb cable tt has a built in interface. hahah i think that is highly unlikely

no, those aint going to eliminate a proper audio interface. But it just make things easier for geetarers who wanna do things on the spot without much thinking.

The ease of process to record and the quality of sound are pretty much different things.

Anyway, those usb to phone jack thingy has been around for a while, at least 2 to 3 years. Behringer had something similar with their geetars couple of years back. But then, it also didnt propel to great height.

Well, I guess i might just end up buying an audio interface. As I'm on a tight buget, I was deciding between the lexicon alpha and m-audio fast track. I've heard better reviews about the fast track but its 40 dollars more, or perhaps m-audio mobilepre usb which is slightly cheaper than fast track :\ So I'm wondering what u all think?
