Like what evenes said, your tone is influenced by your pedals/amps. Upgrading the pickups will most definitely make your Les Paul sound greater than it should. But this is subjective, certain pickups do not mix well with certain guitars of certain woods, vice versa. People once looked down on my Aria Les Paul as a lesser brand instrument but well, i did modify it(A LOT ), and now it sounds/plays great.
so what did you do to your les paul? i want to see what other pple do before modding my own.
With the wonderful help of the people at GC, this is the result.
Pickups - Dimarzio Air Norton/Steve's Special
Fully scalloped neck
Epiphone bigsby
Coil tap/splitting on both tone knobs

ha i almost got the Gs-80 too, but i found that the pup selector was in the wrong place, hence i got the gs-200 which i feel is a more accurate copy. you actually found a brand on the stock pups? for mine they were just unlabelled and stained with wax all over. i guess i'd change the pups, but am on a tight budget. probably rhythm first, as i find them exceedingly muddy on high notes.darkballa said:dude take it from a craftsman user
I bought my craftsman GS-80 at Citymusic at march. this past month all i did was get some GHS boomers, Get a Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Humbucker on the neck, and an Evolution Bridge for the Bridge and now it sound AWESOME!!! WICKED AWESOME! . The main thing about this guitar is its feel, it has a great one at that. My new tewacher actually said that the pickups really osund bad which is a common thing based on my research on this board. So ill tell you these,
1. Change Both Pickups (some brnad named JIPU) theyre really muddy and the treble doesnt come out.
2. Nothing else
bah if you really feel like it change somehting else like tuners but remember the pickups come first.
