hi guys

would it be worth it to upgrade the craftsman lp with better pickups and other hardware? i've haard the wood used to make this guitar would make any good pickups sound as bad. also how much would it cost to wire a split coil in the guitar?

thanks

Hi, why not. If you love the LP, by all means. Craftman LP selected properly have a good playing feel (based on comments of past), but not all are, so if yours feel good to you, it's your keeper.

Upgrade options includes pickups & tuning pegs as most immediate. Electronic (pots & switch) is also reccomended to as the stock ones don't last long.

Modding to wiring can be done to your liking. (coil split, phase invert, active conversion..etc) I can do all these, just PM me if you want.

The stoptail bridge saddles part are not so important, unless you have premature strings snapping at that position recurring often.

I think talking about wood sound quality on these price range guitars is irreralavent.

i haven't played many other guitars, as i'm just starting out, so i cant give u a fair review. maybe gurus with this guitar can shed some light.

wood affects the tone rather den the quality of the sound i guess...personal preference...i prefer basswood to the more popular mahogany

That's bullshit man. Don't believe any of it.

you mean to say if i upgrade my pickups, my lp will sound comparable to say a epiphone les paul with the same pickup configuration? i don't want to invest in pickups and later find out that my lp will never sound good cos of its body.

well but then body wood n pickups aren't the only thing that may affect your tone. like your effects chain and amps play a huge role in shaping your tone too...

Like what evenes said, your tone is influenced by your pedals/amps. Upgrading the pickups will most definitely make your Les Paul sound greater than it should. But this is subjective, certain pickups do not mix well with certain guitars of certain woods, vice versa. People once looked down on my Aria Les Paul as a lesser brand instrument but well, i did modify it(A LOT :D), and now it sounds/plays great.

so what did you do to your les paul? i want to see what other pple do before modding my own.

I dont have money to upgrade now, but it wouldnt hurt to learn what possiblities i have.

my tunning pegs seem abit loose, they can turn so easily without any effort at all, but the strings stay in tune fine. and also the hardware is starting to fade. would it cost much to get the bridge and tuning pegs replaced?

With the wonderful help of the people at GC, this is the result.
