Unreliable strings

Recently I've taken to using GHS Boomers for their nice tone and feel, but my strings cannot be considered old just yet, but my wound E string snapped right at the core. Its not a problem with the guitar because where the snap was, it was not where the string bends at the bridge.

So yeah, I'm looking for recommendations on strings good for alternative rock all the way to death metal, but strong and reliable.

Ps. not sure if this is the right place to post, but if not, mods kindly move it for me? Thanks!

please dont blame the strings, i have tried the GHS boomers and they ARE reliable, its probably your method used to bend etc.

well, i can recommend you 2 brands when i love. Dean Markley blue steels and EB slinkys.

Unless I got a bad pack, but I've had a lot of nasty experiences with GHS some time ago, but never a problem with EB Slinkies...

GHS strings are superb. period. you've got a bad one in there, nothing to do with brand name reputation.

if you want a bend-friendly type, try SIT.

Actually I've just restrung my guitar with Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies... I've jumped ship back to Ernies :) They've never let me down.

Really? I find their tone life acceptable, but yeah, not really spectacular in that aspect. Dean Markleys seem to last the longest for me but they just won't stay in tune, and I don't quite like the tone either...

D'addarios rust even before the tone dies  nice tone but it sucks playing on rusty strings.

EBs has this crunch when its fresh. but it's not lasting.

d'addarios are indeed known to have a very short lifespan. this brand name is suitable for those who change strings often like the pros who re-string their workhorses every night.

in terms of endurance (free from chemical treatment), my vote goes to Curt Mangan.

Curt Mangans are ok. they last fairly long(longer than addarios or ernie ball) but i find the feel of the strings rather stiff to do bends compared to the brands i've mentioned.

For me, the current strings im using are DR tite fits. slightly more expensive(8 bucks) but the strings last quite long and still feel damn good even when they turn black. They also stay in tune better with my fender strat and i abuse the whammy bar alot (im using the vintage bridge and not the locking variety). Probably due to the coated nature of strings.

Former dedicated EB user here.

Are you sure it's not your bridge? Might even be the nut for all you know..
Might be a tad bit too sharp.. Or your method of bending..
Or its just a bad pack!

Nope, can't be the nut because it snapped just before the bridge, but it can't be the bridge because the saddles are smooth and show no likelihood of cutting into the strings.
