Unblack Metal

Music is not just universal, its a very subjective thing. The world would be a better place if we'll just accept everyone has different opinions and preferences. Some like both, some hate one and love the other. It's music.

actually, yeah.

but, to completely shun and diss a certain genre is wrong. well, to me at least.
i used to shun BM because this one band i listened to bored me to death.
then recently my friend introduced to me some songs, and i pretty much liked it.

moral of story: afew sucky, boring songs doesn't make the genre "full of crap".. be more open and explore the other options available.

well said dude. i have nothing against secular black metal or really any genre of music. but what pushes my buttons is unfounded knee jerk reactions that people give typically just cos its cool or hip. U know, its like the kind of reaction that Neutral Milk Hotel will give...either "everything that dude touches is gold" or "that shit is lame". if u have to give one, please at least let us know why u feel so.

im not a christian, and i dont hate on secular black metal. but, ideologically speaking, i find the whole "unblack" movement even more subversive than secular black metal. the fact that unblack bands have christ centred messages doesnt dilute from the fact that their music still sounds as grim and brutal and raw as black metal...sometimes even more so. just keep an open mind to this..it might surprise you.

I like black metal. The unblack metal doesn't appeal to me even though I haven't even heard much of this genre.

I'm fascinated with black metal because of its bleak and nihilistic sound. But will the same bleak and nihilistic sound be present in unblack metal bands, which has an anti-nihilistic stand (since they support a religious belief)? Metal is a form of music which is very much influenced by the ideology of the musician.

To put into perspective, will Mayhem and Gorgoroth still sound the same same if they are christians instead of atheists? I doubt so.

Well, some find it lame because the whole concept doesnt appear appealling to them. So they say all this stuff about the genre.

I mean, BM metal or Un-BM, it's still music as a whole. TS was asking "Who is into Unblack Metal", not what do you think about Unblack Metal..

If you're not into it, so be it. You should open up a thread dissing all the genres you hate. But not here. I think the TS made this as a Unblack Metal appreciation thread.

Just my 2cents

Anyways, some un-black metal bands sounds great. Like the ones bro Genocide mention..
Great stuff from them..

so does the fact that tom arya is a practising catholic makes slayer sound like a gospel band? i dont really agree with your the idea that black metal should have a certain way of thinking or behavior or culture that is distinct to black metal and black metal only. its just music actually.

those bands mentioned above are pretty good...i also like the rawer unpolished sound...like njiqaddha, light shall prevail, wrathful plague. am still exploring more as i go along...

Eh, it's quite contradicting if anyone has heard Christ Illusion.

I believe BM stands out the most because of its Anti-Christianity ideology. Although it has certainly evolved... Without its ideology, BM is unlikely to be BM that we hear and perceive today

We don't see any thrash or death metal band in a light similar to BM, do we?

I just feel it ain't metal if it worships jesus christ. Just sounds wrong/odd to me. No offence to christians out there of course...

hmm...personally i listen to the music rather than the lyrics most of the time. coz music itself is a language, n it's a language that doesn't tell u whether it's anti-christ or pro-christ.
imo...there're only 2 genres in music - good music, or crappy music. n u define the genre urself. y b so particular bout whether it's pop, rock, metal, blues, etc. ??

o.O v

i agree with you buddy. i'm a metalhead myself, but i really dig blues, it just goes to show that music is universal, your liking to that genre might be other people poison, well to me both genre of this music is great, frankly ive never heard of this unblack genre, but i do check it out and its kinda cool..

I guess that's your opinion. Its human nature to stereotype.

E.g: GNR's Chinese Democracy not selling 700,000 copies= epic fail
Or a hardcore GNR fan would say:
GNR without Slash and co. is not GNR.

ok enough of the GNR examples. ditto.

ok perhaps i didnt explain myself clearly in my first post.

by lame i didnt mean that the music is lame, but rather the imagery and stuff. like the way unblack metal bands tend to name their songs directly against the black metal bands. it's pretty hilarious to watch them try to spread christianity through a genre of music that is inherently anti-christ or satanic. and regarding NSBM, i just dislike the message that is being spread by having racist/white supremist lyrics.

One day lets say you find a song that has a tune that you're attracted to. Then cause its lyrics are of promoting christian values will you diss it?

My genre ranges mainly from classic rock to metal. To be open to for example a certain genre , ( Metal in ur case ) one has to be able to appreciate the various styles of it eg : thrash metal to black metal etc.

Ur statement clearly states its not metal if it worships Christ? Then what constitutes metal? Does every band have to sing about dying/killing/revenge/destruction to be metal? Or do they just have to have many power chords with a nice solo?

i guess most people wouldnt be able to tell the difference between an unblack metal and a black metal song if they werent told of the difference beforehand. the dissing comes mostly from the association with jc, not the music.

Ur just one of those people who love certain bands for their cool factor arent u. 'I feel it aint metal if it worships jesus' WHAT SHIT IS THAT. so now lyrics define the genre for u? or the band member's hidden subconscious thoughts, which u can magically see because u are oh so great.

I bet u cant tell the difference between one death metal song and another supposedly 'christian' death metal song.

Hell I bet u cant differentiate between a B note and a G note.
