the ts9 gives you a mid-hump, you should def be able to notice that at the least.
try putting ur ts9 before another OD pedal, switch on the OD pedal, strum strum, then kick in the ts9, and hear the diff. If you still can't hear the diff...think you need to check your ears out a lil pal. =) I tend to use the ts9 as a booster for the mids, with some grit. Adds meat to chords, cuts through the mix better.
I do recall not being all that satisfied with the stock ts9, but I got it modded and I really like what it does for me now. Experiment, and you'll find out.
Sometimes you need to try it out yourself before you really know what you're getting, so it's ok that you bought it before finding out totally what the ts9 was about. Reading on paper can only take you a certain distance. If you couldn't try it out some place, and thus decided to buy it and try, by all means. Especially if you got it cheap, or you just have the spare cash. Don't let that worry you too much. It's a good thing to read up first so that you don't get a rude shock though. People are around to help as well, so do ask around next time before you make a purchase.
Cheers!
