Transformation of bass to guitar. possible? discuss.

i was just looking through some pics and wondered if such a thing was possible in theory. although the scale of a bass and guitar are totally different. but its just an idea i happened to have.

so, guitarist and bassist in the forum, i leave you to discuss it yeah?

What do you mean by transforming a bass to guitar?

We all know dear John Petrucci strung a Musicman Silhouette Bass that Rossie mentioned with heavy gauge guitar strings to achieve a baritone A standard tuning.

I just found out days ago that the Sillhouette is only 29 3/4 inches long, making it ideal for becoming a baritone.

If that's what you're referring to, yeah obviously it's possible cuz guitar strings are strings too.

Stringing a bass with standard gauge guitar strings then tuning up to standard tuning will be hard though. The strings will probably snap. But you'd get a very different tone if you succeed.

nah, what i was thinking when i started this thread was if it was possible to do that by
1) changing the bridge
2) changing the nut
and
3) MAYBE changing the neck?

and of course, a pickup change would be in order as well. would be interesting to see if guitar strings can be used on bass pickups too aye

an octave pedal for a bass thats been changed to guitar? i had this idea actually because i like the epiphone goth thunderbird and the epi nikki sixx. but both only come as basses. so i was thinking of the possibility of changing it to guitar.

If you change the neck it's not a bass anymore, so it's not exactly a transformation eh? A bass is a bass cuz of it's scale length.

Anyway, you'd need to redrill and stuff if you're gonna change the bridge to a guitar one.

Bass guitars is techincally just a bigger guitar. So can you change a big one into a small one? You can't unless you downsize everything then it wil no longer be a big one!
