TONE!

And the point is, to make the effort to try to get better sounds from using good components.

Its always a sum of the parts no?

wrong!

Tone depends on how deep your pocket is.
The deeper it is, it will help you think that your tone is better, although it is not

Don't believe me? just record some chops with non sloppy playing on boss blues driver and let's say boss DD3. Post here, and change the description saying you are using Eternity pedal and Echozar. People will reply "Awesome tone dude!", "OMG!! heavenly tone!!!"

Try putting the actual description (e.g. boss BD2 into DD3), you only see "Nice playing" or "mod your pedal to enhance this, enhance that"

haha, at least somebody got my sarcasm....

actually tone is in the fingers, as in its up to the player

i can have sum1 with a "The Green Man" guitar sounding like a dude with a Fender, you need how to work with the sound of your guitar to give you the best that it can give

and although i've been really sarcastic abt tonewoods, i CAN actually hear the difference when playing say a basswood bodied rosewood fingerboarded guitar to a alder bodied maple fingerboarded guitar, but it still boils down to the player eventually to churn out that "TONE"

2 similar model guitars won't even yield the same tone from it sometimes....go figure

yeah i certainly agree! it's so cool! like no zebra are alike, no human are the same.

well, speak of tone from a non musician perspective, and say from a audiofile fanatic etc.
they would probably say the guitar with the nicely well rounded tone sounds best.
while that sounds too trebley, another too muddy etc :P

rimuel to get the agathis to sound like magahony, you just need to slap an Emg...:) but if you want mag to sound like agathis ...that i dun know..haha

from what i read agathis the wood is easily chip...

I dunno guys...

Tone is in the fingers is very subjective to me.

Everything affects your tone, even non-tangible things like the weather or your mood, can make a difference. How a guitar is setup will affect it. How you run your effects will (duh) make a difference.

Its a sum of the parts and to me, fingers = articulation/nuances/quirks.

I don't believe that tone is all in the fingers.

Play a power chord, another dude plays a power chord, one has better tone than the other. Fingers? More like Technique or Gear.

Then again, with today's CNC stuff... you can get decent guitars at lower prices that sound quite okay.

I think what would be detrimental to the guitarist are those that would come around and say things like, " The Audience can't tell what, so why bother? "
Wish they would have a bit more pride in their instrument, their extention of themselves, their way of expressing themselves. Of course, I understand if they take it (guitar) less seriously and more of the PoV that its a piece of wood.

Anyway, better quality wood I would go for. Not only for better tone, whatever that means, but for the beauty and weight. I love a good looking wood (like Edo's USACG body) or a piece that is light + resonant. Great for the back and instills a sense of pride in the instrument.

yes i got to agree that agathis chips easily.thats why i keep mine in proper conditions.to prevent damages :D

tone is in the woods, but the unleashing of it is in the fingers... i can give you a marshall full stack, a gibson les paul, and if you can't play, you can't play.. period..

also the player's character is in it too i think.. how anal he is.. eric johnson can screw his techies for rolling his cables into too small a coil... whereas for me... wait till i can nail that manhattan intro riff then talk about tone... though i think a DECENT tone is necessary as fuel for you to practice... if you dun like what you hear, most prob you won't wanna play it for much longer
