Tone port, lousy guitar/amp.

Okay guys, i have a beginner guitar for quite sometime already together with a 10w amp. As we get better, we always seek for sicker tone but we all know 10w amp can't give us the sound we always wanted. But i came across this thing called toneport.
Just wondering that if i plug my guitar>toneport>laptop, can it produce a better sound than a 10w amp?
Is there any cons about tone port? example like cant perform outside live and etc.
Or is it wiser to invest on maybe a better amp like 15w,20w?

some gurus enlighten me pls. =)

Question you might want to ask before getting the Toneport:

- Are you ok with the hassle of turning on the laptop everytime you wanna practice?

- Are your laptop speakers/headsets good enough?

- What is the budget that you can afford?

- Are you using pedals?

Anyway, a higher wattage amp doesn't necessarily equate to better. There's more to it than that. Even with Toneport, if your laptop speakers is crap, your tone will still be crap. Spending on a better or headphone might solve the problem, but in the end, if the cost of the Toneport + speaker/headset = more than an amp, might as well get an amp.

Alternatively, consider this:

The toneport/guitarport is brilliant for what it does. And that is emulate the sounds of the great amp models. However, nothing beats the real warmth of a tube amp running at peak volume.

But In other words, the toneport it is perfect for home practice (assuming that everyone nowadays owns atleast a decent speaker/headphone set)

It is pretty good for home recording too, and the majority of the guitars for my upcoming album were recorded on that, and it has given me satisfying results.

In short, highly recommended over a 10w practice amp with some shoddy distortion pedal.

hey thanks for the reply! You might be right, stocked speaker in laptop are those moderate ones. I've never thought of this before. But again, i do not have any pedal now. The amount of pedal + better amp is way too absurb for my financial situation now.

Btw, i've read about podxt and related products jsut now. So podxt act as a multi effect pedal if connect the output to an amp. At the same time, act as an "speaker/amp" if connected to headphone?

okay thanks radius_vector. i think i'll go do some homework before i purchase any of the products! thanks man
