Tommy Emmanuel

Yes! My favourite guitarist. I got the Maton guitar because of him. He also plays the drum since he was a kid. The best thing - he can't read music!

There was an album he did with Chet Atkins - revolutionary.

Thanks for the links! You made my day! My, I've no idea he looks so much older now than I first heard him in Australia.

When I was studying in Australia, he played live (open air) in our University. He had a way with the crowd. I missed the show, but my friends who went told me his amp burst at the start of the show. Somebody from the crowd shouted, "Hey Tommy! What happened? I thought you were good at this!" Somehow, he just cracked his jokes and got the crowd going.

For those who haven't heard him, you will have to listen to the piece he wrote for the Australian aborigines called "Initiation". He added a delay to his acoustic guitar, then used all sorts of techniques like scratching the strings to picking between the nut and the head etc - amazing sound!

I watched a video of him giving tips to watchers how to play the guitar. This guy re-strings his guitar in something like 20 seconds and his new string does not go out of tune after that.

Hey, I watched "this is your life" in Australia. The episode that feature Tommy Emmanuel. Interesting to see all the guitarist he influenced throughout his career...

Anyway, very very nice... Everybody, not only guitarists, should watch this amzing finger-picking guitar master.

wow... this guy really blows me away everytime i watched the vids.. thor666... PLEASE SHOW US MORE...!!!!

haha... i don't have more... i also happened to stumble on the woodsongs website thru another forum. well if you all have a little to spend, you can try buying his CDs and DVDs... the DVDs are instructional vids and maybe one can cope some skills off him. :D

wow! I remember he did come to Singapore in the early 90s.

he can play all the Beatles hits with his guitar!

His instructional videos are very helpful. He is really a keen teacher. Worth to get hold of one.

If you listen to his CD's, you can feel that he actually enjoys the music (you can see clearly from the way he plays). His signature (in the CDs) - humming the tune he is playing occasionally, breaking off into a laughter occasionally (especially when he plays really fast and playing a duet with somebody else). The feeling he puts into his playing gets into you as you listen. It feels alive. Definitely my guitar hero!

I watched the vids and i must say he still amazes me everytime i watch him. He's phenomenal. everytime i watch him and other great players i get kinda discouraged, like i practice but i never get that good. But tommy himself said it best, he says " music is not a contact sport, its not competition, we play because we love it" he's really great. I just wanted to post and bring this topic up so more people can appreciate his music. Have fun!!
