When I was studying in Australia, he played live (open air) in our University. He had a way with the crowd. I missed the show, but my friends who went told me his amp burst at the start of the show. Somebody from the crowd shouted, "Hey Tommy! What happened? I thought you were good at this!" Somehow, he just cracked his jokes and got the crowd going.
For those who haven't heard him, you will have to listen to the piece he wrote for the Australian aborigines called "Initiation". He added a delay to his acoustic guitar, then used all sorts of techniques like scratching the strings to picking between the nut and the head etc - amazing sound!
I watched a video of him giving tips to watchers how to play the guitar. This guy re-strings his guitar in something like 20 seconds and his new string does not go out of tune after that.
