Hey guys, just got my pay and I'm in a dilemma on weather to scallop and setup my guitar or get a better amp. Can i get some help on what to do first?

hmmm, if you're looking for better tone i suggest get a better amp. if you find your guitar has some problems i suggest setting up your guitar. if you got nothing else to do go scallop your guitar.ahaha

scalloping can be done anytime.
amps have a fixed time on when to buy because of the sale.
you could save up and wait for the upcoming year end sale to get yourself an amp.
orrrrr alternatively you could scallop it now and then use your next pay to get an amp. :D

imo scalloping won't change the tone as much as an amp, its just the feeeeelll.

i wanna scallop and setup and the same time, coz every time i play like got buzzing and when i string bend, the note die off.

errr. the buzzing the decaying of notes when string bends isn't remedied through scalloping the frets. all scalloping does is makes the feel better which is an acquired tastse. also some says it makes the sound fuller. not too sure thou.
the remedy all of those i suggest a set up or refretting cos your frets might have problems. me dunno alot but just me opinion.

scalloping wont solve that problem actually. it just makes bending and vibrato feel more shiok

have u tried playing on a guitar with scalloped neck? cos some players just cannot get used to the feel. so u might regret doing it.

RyanZ: hahha why is it that everytime when scalloped is mentioned ppl think of yngwie! why not ritchie blackmore!!

When it comes to scallop fretboard, it reminds me of Yngwie too. I only know that he uses a scallop fretboard. Paiseh :D

Yeah, now I know. I did some research on Ritchie Blackmore after reading. It's good to know something new ;).

haha okay at least now u know ritchie blackmore uses scalloped frets. yngwie was inspired by blackmore.

nah, according to Guitar World magazine (issue with Yngwie on the cover a few months back) Yngwie got the idea from a lute a customer sent him to fix. he only knew that Blackmore also used scalloped fretboards after arriving in the US. before, all he ever saw of Blackmore was in those small casette tape covers.

how much is your budget for setup/scallop?

will that money be enough to buy an amp worthy of an upgrade?

A big issue with scalloping would be playing in tune.

If its simply just because "scalloped" frets feels more shiok,
all the top guitar makers would scallop their frets so all their
customers can feel shiokness.

What I meant by about playing in tune is, finger pressure.

The scalloping created a "pocket"(margin) of error, when fretting.
So when fretting a note, the pressure must be very precise.
Or you'll be playing sharp alot of the time.

I would reccommend you try out a guitar with Jumbo frets first.
Same effect to scalloped frets, but to a much lesser degree.
Jumbo frets are frets that are higher than normal.
