I believe there're quite a few motif users out there, so i'd like to start a thread sharing tips on using the motif es. nothing beats learning from another user, we just cant get by reading the owner's manual can we?

if you have any tips on using the music production synth, please feel free to post it here.

i've been using it for a couple of months, and i find the learning curve pretty steep.

Here're a few tips for gigs and jamming sessions:-

- Use the Song mode for smooth patch changes in live.

- Use the Favourite soft-key in the Voice-mode to create a list of favourite patches.

I hope these tips are useful.

Alright, i finally found the time to actually write out the actual steps to one of the tips offerred. Some might be wondering how that is done so here's the guide.

1. Access the 'Song Mode'

2. Using the increment/decrement soft key or the dial, select an empty song.

3. Press the 'Mixing' soft key to access the mixing mode.

4. Access the 'Voice' tab by pressing F2.

5. Once in the Voice Tab, you will see 16 tracks of voices. Each with its own L/R pan, volume control and voice. All these parameters are editable and if you output using studio monitors, you'll be able to experience the pan.

6. Above the volume control, there will be 2 rows of numbers. These are LSM banks and MSB banks numbers. Do not fret if you do not know the numbers of the voice you want, you can simply select the voice by accessing the 'Category' voice menu when your cursor is on.

7. Do the same for all the 16 tracks. Remember to save your settings onto an eternal memory. Please refer to your manual on how to save and rename the songs.

8. When a note is played with a voice on track 1 with the sustain pedal on, try changing the track. The current track 1 voice will play until you release the note and play the next note.

9. Wala! Smooth sound change for performance.

Hope you have fun.

Musically,
Jon
