This dude is gooooooooooooood

what i dont appreciate is when musicians epitomise speed as a trait thats so important or crucial statement that defines a musician. And become so sensitive to whatever critisism anyone has to say about that.

Trend = put down those who aren't recognized

That's what I don't understand!

Sure, you may be entitled to your personal opinion, i.e. "speed sux", but just because you think that way, doesnt mean you have to put down any fast guitarist like FF, YJM...

Just because you have a personal opinion doesnt mean that you're correct, everybody else is wrong, or you're wrong, everyone else is correct.

And your personal opinion sure as hell doesnt entitle you to putting down another musical genre.

you used the word "you" in it alot eh?

Dude. I never said anything about you, man. You misunderstand.

I was referring to the general populace. I never said anything about you.

so you now talkin to the whole populace or what? hahaha

dude. some think speed is good. some think melody is good. some think improvisation is good.

it all boils down to personal preference.

just because YOU dont appreciate speed, doesnt mean that makes you the king of the universe. Just because YOU say oranges are purple in colour doesnt mean you are right.

You merely serve to prove my point that "Sure, you may be entitled to your personal opinion, i.e. "speed sux", but just because you think that way, doesnt mean you have to put down any fast guitarist like FF, YJM...

Just because you have a personal opinion doesnt mean that you're correct, everybody else is wrong, or you're wrong, everyone else is correct.

Yes, speed is a good trait, but if you noticed, there are people who can play slowly, a song with melody. At the same time, there are people who can play fast, incredibly fast in fact, and still maintain their sense of melody. Speed is definitely not a must, but in the lives of these people it is something with which they can use to relate to their instrument, and compose their music.

I just feel that this dude is plain show off. and its not point training and practicing so hard to play a flurry of notes at 240 bpm that sounds like crap.

This has got to be the third time i'm going to say this. Give his songs a listen. If you don't, what are you going to base that claim on? Just one video which, on his site, is labelled as a video to showcase his technical abilities?

In any case, he deserves respect. He has the ability to play that fast, faster than a lot of people, and the ability to show the world his talents. Not that i'm directing this at you, but can you do it?

eh seeks im not saying u all putting down yngwie or petrucci lol.. im saying in general lahhhhh.. always kena likedat.. lol some of the few examples hahahaha

yngwie = no feel, no melody, sooooooo 80s.
petrucci = too technical, no feel
rusty cooley = too much speed(lol), no melody
michael romeo = too technical, too much garbage riffs

and the list will go on....
where is the place for these musicians and the likes in the music industry?

haha well these nasty comments will always be around. who cares, only fools speak like that... too much speed also cannot...hahahahaha... if that guy who criticise is so good, he would be doing guitar player column liao

Lol. Not only that, if you wanna criticise someone, you better have the manhood to stand up for your criticism.

In other words, only criticise a person if you are sure you can play much better than him. Even then, criticism isnt good.

Hmm that's where I disagree. You don't need to be better than someone to critisise certain aspects of his playing.

To quote my oft-used analogies:

You don't need to be a good cook to know that a chef sucks.
You don't need to be a good soccer player to know that someone can't play for nuts.

I'd also like to add that criticism can be good.
And yes, you better have the manhood to stick to your convictions and not wilt under pressure.

Criticism can be good. Only if it's founded and contsructive. "You suck" isnt helpful. "You're not good, but you can improve. Try doing xxxxx while xxxxx and you should sound better" is.

And i'm just curious, but if someone doesnt cook for nuts surely you know you can cook better than him?

Same for the soccer player.

Yea that's what I meant by good criticism.

The point of my analogies is that, you don't have to be better than a person at his field, to know that he is lacking in certain aspects.

a more vivid example: I'm sure that none of us are better than Shaq at basketball, but its obvious that he sucks at free throws, and we certainly have the right to voice it out.
Certainly, we don't have to reach a stage where we are better than Shaq before we can offer our opinions on him.

ahaha. well a comment made tt sum1 cant hear shit cos tt guys playing too fast. maybe time for a brain upgrade so u can actually comprehend wat is being played. shredders can do fast n slow. but can slow players do shred?? :D

That's cos different ppl hear music differently. Some people can differentiate modes or the colours when a guitarist shred and to others it will just sound like a jumbled up melody ... I guess it's down to how people hear it that they can appreciate the shredding

that's quite true.. the best is respect any other genre or style.. and dont just dump it in the bin like that.. cheers! :partyman:

+1 to all those supporting respect.

It's really important, just like the way i don't dig punk rock, but respect those who play it. Just do well in whatever you're doing.
