As synth technology advances, we are definitely spoilt for choice these days when it coes to getting a basic setup.

Well, if you could only own 2 synths/workstations (one with weighted keys and the other unweighted), what would you have chosen?

Personally, I'd like to own a Fantom X7 coupled with a Yamaha S90.

Anyone wants to share their wish list? I know it's too early for X'mas, but it's definitely not too early to dream a little and perhaps start saving a little too.

Hi Teras, good choice there...I kinda like the motif's megavoice tech though I still prefer Fantom's velocity switch.

Reason I put 2 choices is because firstly it looks cool to have 2 stacked up kybds and secondly, I personally do feel awkward playing certain instruments sounds with weighted keys...matter of habit.

Well, the question posed was "if you could only own 2 synths/workstations)" - so I take the question to be a hypothetical one. :wink: If I can only own 2 without anything else, then these 2 would be great. By the way, Oasys is weighted; Neko can be weighted or unweighted.

I knew you'll mention Yamaha keyboards because you know I vouch for their touch! But then, if money is no problem, I can sacrifice a little touch for features. Anyway, the best touch is a real piano.

Ai yah. Hypothetical question anyway! Other possibilities are the Kawai MP4, or if you want the best touch, Roland KR117M Digital Grand. The keys has escapement - ie the mechanism which the hammer falls away from the keys after it is being struck. When you press the keys of a piano softly, you can feel a slight catch towards the end when you press it. That's built into a number of Roland digital pianos. I played a similar one in Hong Kong - beautiful touch! These are different range of digital pianos that's really not portable.

Don't "wack" me too hard for saying this, but so far the most "shiok" weighted key on a digi kybd is Yamaha's.

By the way, has anyone tested the 88 key OASYS before? How is it's feel as compared to the higher end SP digi pianos? Also, how is it's preset piano sound? Since the times of the Trinity to the Triton, I have been disappointed with their preset piano sound...the sound across the kybd is just not progressively smooth...no offence to their "worshippers" (I was a proud Trinity worshipper myself!)

Anyway, thx to all who have participated in this seemingly "Boh Liao" topic...BUT don't stop! Keep them coming!...sometimes it's good to be dreaming, right? :wink:

I did have another dream combination prior to the one submitted earlier - Kawai MP4 or MP8 (wood keys!) coupled with a 76 Key OASYS (I still love KORG's synth key's action!...and not to mention their ultra convenient Touchview tech!...and of course its nostalgic "ooh ooh ahh ahh" Wavestation...BUT provided their piano sound sounds great too!)

Perhaps I am rigid when it comes to synth music...only Roland and Yamaha are my overall winners. I do reckon that all synths have their pros and cons...perhaps there's a gentlemen's agreement among the bigwigs of the industry to not produce the ultimate synth so that everyone gets a share of the pie! :lol:

Ya, the key is made by real wood.
I haven't has chance to touch it but i think the touch should be better.
