SEA Games: Ten-man Singapore hang on to beat Vietnam 3-2

Ten-man Singapore survived a late onslaught to beat Vietnam 3-2 in a Group B match at the Nakhon Ratchasima Municipal Stadium on Monday.

First half own goals by Quang Thanh and Long Giang gave the Lions the lead but Isa Halim was sent off in the 29th minute following two yellow cards in as many minutes.

Shahril Ishak made it 3-0 with the break approaching, running on to meet Khairul Amri’s diagonal pass before slamming the ball past Tram Duc Wong in the Vietnam goal.

Vietnam pulled a goal back in the 54th minute thanks to Phan Thanh Binh slotting a loose ball home after the Singapore defence struggled to clear their lines.

The Lions had to withstand the expected second half onslaught but their cause was helped somewhat after Le Tan Tai was shown a straight red card for elbowing substitute Hafiz Osman as both were going for the ball down the touchline late on.

In the third minute of injury time, Indonesia referee Jimmy Napitupulu awarded Vietnam a penalty kick after Hafiz had handled the ball in the box.

Le Cong Vinh sent the Hassan Sunny the wrong way from the spot.
Singapore will now face Malaysia – who had beaten Laos 4-0 in the group’s other match – on Saturday in their final preliminary round match.

Singapore: Hassan Sunny, Shahril Alias (Hafiz Osman 74’), Baihakki Khaizan, Ismail Yunos, Juma’at Jantan, Isa Halim, Tengku Mushadad (Sevki Sha’ban 69’), Shahril Ishak, Ridhuan Muhamad, Khairul Amri, Fazrul Nawaz

Wellll...The Lions got lucky to get tat 2 own goal advantage. I didn`t see the live match cos was at work, would have been fun to watch the whole game. Oh well...Malaysia is next.

Alam Shah banned for 12 months, fined $2,000

The FAS Disciplinary Committee convened with regards to the charges against Tampines Rovers forward Noh Alam Shah following his conduct in the RHB Singapore Cup final between Tampines Rovers FC and Singapore Armed Forces FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium on 25 November 2007.

Alam Shah has been banned from all FAS-sanctioned matches and tournaments for twelve months and fined $2,000.

The 27-year-old accepted the charges laid against him, which were:

(a) Of violent conduct when he tackled Daniel Bennett of Singapore Armed Forces FC in the 93rd minute of the match and thereafter using his knee to hit Bennett’s face, followed by a kick to Bennett’s body, and

(b) Of aggressive behaviour when he went towards match referee Abas Daud in an aggressive manner in the 93rd minute of the match and was again aggressive towards FAS Photographer Aundry Gan after the player had been escorted out of the field of play.

The ban will take effect immediately and the fine to be payable within 14 days.

Any thoughts, ppl?

they didnt bother to find out why he actually did that? was bennett charged with anythin ? if not. the f%#$ em.

Take note, he is still elligible to play for the national team since the ban does not say FIFA-sanctioned matches. Up to Raddy to decide if he still wants NAS in the NT.

So NAS won`t play in next season`s matches with Rovers. Maybe he`ll play abroad?

A one year bad seems a tad bit harsh. We see many instances of violence in epl & other international matches where they get at most 4-5 matches suspension and hefty fines.

A more appropreate punishment would have been for maybe a month's suspension BUT punishment including going for anger management counselling and then making compulsory apperances at the various youth soccer acedemys, schools etc.

Im sure he is remorseful enuff as it is.

Anyway, a ban should include all FIFA sanctioned tournements as banning him domestically but allowing him to play abroad defeats the whole purpose right?

I do hope he will feature in SG's world cup campaign at some point.

my 2 cents

haha i think agu can do a pretty god job too. he has the body strength and power to win balls and shoot good balls and he has good ball control too.

everybody hates losing. its something you do in the heat of the moment

12 months is ouch. yeah going overseas to play is a good idea.

Oh yeah..Agu is another good option too..maybe NAS can try play for the Indonesian club, the one being managed by Fandi Ahmad now?
