I used to have many happy memories of the smaller, old stage there. I used to go there whenever i skipped school to watch artistes soundcheck in the afternoon, and some of the best sets i've seen locally were there.

It was always my dream to someday play there, and i was quite shattered when i heard it was going to be renovated. Why try to fix what isn't broken, i thought.

Well it looks freaking awesome now. I stand corrected.

I always thought that the stage was too weather-challenged. Somehow looking at the new setup, the audience are still not very much sheltered. Hmmm..

oh i loved the old stage.. remember watching lots of bands there. wonder how the new one is like

The last time i went there was when RUDRA played there. amazing how a metal outfit managed to play at esplanade. There were police keeping an eye on all the headbangers damn funny.

any pics of the new one?

well it doesnt matter what stage they have.the size or the shape.most important that there is a stage for our local talents in music.

The new one is bigger. And i felt that, why renovate? LOL. Looks similar.

But I guess the sound systems is getting better! LOVE IT! But still, the power house is still being used right?

BAYBEATS!?

Well, I just played the new outdoor theatre last night with Jon Chan..

I think the new design solves some the problems of the old design (last nights show would have been rained off with the old stage).

However, heavy rain is still a problem as the wind blows it under the canopy.

Also, they haven't quite finished get the sound system in so we were using the temporary system.

Sound wise they still need to figure some stuff out too because the stage sound is really echo-y.

But the bigger size is a big plus as it means so many more people can watch the show comfortably. Not like the old outdoor theatre where for events like Baybeats you had to chop seat and stay there if you wanted to catch the acts there. otherwise you could only hear and not see...

From my thoughts, they should elevate the stage, not the stage going down . If you know what I mean.

So that, everyone can see like the powerhouse :)

agreed on the intimate part man. of course not suitable for the type of metal, hardrock, moshing2 kinda gigs. but for like acoustic gigs or jazz ones the ones sitting down type, perfect. but only to be ruined by the noise by certain kids. huahuahua.

it's meant to be different from the powerhouse stage, of course. why would you have two identical stages a few metres from each other? =p

if im not wrong the powerhouse stage will be brought down. and metal or hard rock performances will be held at the outdoor stage bcoz powerhouse near makan sutra..very noisy apparently
