Arsenal land Dutch prospect Ozyakup ahead of AZ
tribalfootball.com - April 23, 2008

Arsenal have swooped for Dutch teenage prospect Oguzhan Ozyakup.

The 15 year-old has agreed terms on a five-year deal with Arsenal, says De Telegraaf ahead of a rival offer from AZ Alkmaar.

Ozyakup will turn 16 in September and is already a regular for Holland U17.

Nordtveit - I can be Arsenal's 'new defender'

By Chris Harris
If Arsène Wenger decides to strengthen his defence this summer, he will probably dip into the transfer market. Havard Nordtveit is hoping to spare him the trouble.
The Norwegian defender arrived at Emirates Stadium last July and, despite a three-month lay-off earlier this season, has made steady progress in his first year at the Club. Nordtveit does not turn 18 until June but his assured performances for the second string have belied his tender years.
The 17-year-old has clearly impressed the men who matter - he was handed his first-team debut shortly after arriving last summer and was named Reserve team captain in September. Now Nordtveit is hoping that Wenger decides to promote from within when he assesses his squad at the end of the season.
"Of course I want to be that player," Nordtveit told Arsenal.com. "It is up to me to show them what I have.
"My first season has been very good. It was not so happy in the start with my injury but I am pleased to be back regularly in the Reserves, and to be captain. We got a smashing result on Monday night so it is just going upwards.
"Playing in the pre-season games is in my mind. I will miss the last reserve game as I am away with the national team on Thursday, but I will keep trying to do everything in training and if I am picked [for pre-season games] I will be very pleased. We will see."
It's easy to see why great things are expected of Nordtveit. The Norwegian has a commanding presence at the back and a range of passing which eclipses most central defenders. Nordtveit lacks experience but he has been hoovering up advice from more established team-mates.
"Training with the first team has helped me a lot," he said. "Everybody there has so much experience, like Kolo Toure and William Gallas.
"I need to see everything and learn what I can. They tell me to be patient, not to rush it, do the right things every single time and stay focused on what we do. Of course, we have to do it well in the games too.
"I have definitely improved because the pace of the football here is much quicker than in Norway. I have become more of a team player, my passing is getting better and I am becoming more professional all over the pitch and off it. I have improved in almost everything."
Earlier this season Wenger admitted he had "rarely seen a boy of his age so mature". If Nordtveit continues on his upward curve, the Frenchman may not have to look far when he hunts for reinforcements this summer.

Wenger - I can handle criticism but I won't accept disrespect

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger is prepared to accept criticism over Arsenal's failure to land a trophy this season but he will not tolerate disrespect.

The Emirates Stadium side have had an improved campaign this term, going further in the Champions League and, with three games left, have already amassed six more points in the Premier League than they did 12 months ago. However, having looked so dominant in the early stages of the season, their lack of silverware at the end of the campaign is seen as a disappointment.
"You know you will be criticised for that," Wenger told Arsenal.com. "But you don't need to accept everything.
"People say you make mistakes, well that is professional. When people say you don't know what you are doing, that is a little bit disrespectful."
But, in any case, right now Wenger's concern is not himself.
"At the moment I am trying more to protect the players so they don't lose their self-esteem and their confidence," he said speaking before the weekend. "I feel that is important for the future of the team and for themselves."

Alex Hleb admits FA charge of violent conduct
The following appeared on the Football Association website on Wednesday morning:

"Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb has admitted a charge of violent conduct and will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect.

"Hleb was charged for his involvement in an incident with Reading defender Graeme Murty during the second half of the match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 19 April.

"The incident was not seen by referee Peter Walton. Having now watched video footage of the incident, Walton has informed The FA that, had he seen it at the time, he would have shown Hleb a red card for violent conduct."

Damm..Another blow for AFC

GOOD LESSON FOR HIM COZ HE SLAPPED THE DUDE ...

besides Hlep been losing his temper a bitthese days ....

totally agree with fgl.its like being a top gunner wont bring you success anywhere else except at the emirates.not many ex-gunners have successful careers when they leave the club.

he wont be as successful anywhere else ..just ask Vieira, Henry, Petit etc ...

wasnt it im the 1 who post it before abt ex-gunner have limited or no success at all, oh wat the heck, i want to see more of Diaby,Denilson, Carlos Vela,....this are those few ppl who have promising future....

Oranje Netherlands right? Haha Spain or Germany for me. As for fgl's comment, NO NO NO Skrtel will STAY at Pool. Haha headwan if u can persuade Wenger to take Riise i'm sure no one will have any complaints. Btw Havard Nordtveit is Norwegian right? Hmmm.........maybe he'll be like Riise? Hehe.......maybe just maybe. Anyway, i hope Spain do well in Euro, another underperforming team. Germany have scaled the heights, reaching the finals and semi-finals in the World Cup 2002 and 2006 respectively. I feel they just need more ruthlessness in front of goal, hopefully Klose can continue to provide that and Podolski can get back to form. I was heartbroken when Italy beat them in the semis in 2006, i felt they deserved to go through more thaan Italy. But oh well, i guess all's well that ends well.

Persuade wenger? he don even listen abt the senderos issue....

Hiya, spain always underperform lah, everytime when come to international, dunno wat happen, apart from having great world class player.......

Abt Havard Nordtveit, hehehehe, u think wenger out of his mind putting him as captain for the reserve team? eh wait.....he did put senderos as captain on numerous cup game, arghh....now u remind me, gonna Sms wenger....hahahahha

Haha.......doesn't bode well for them eh? Hmmmm.......captaincy this season has been an issue......aiya simple lar jus ask Adebayor or ah beng Fabregas to be captain lar......or else if Flamini stays ask him.

Lahm set for another season at Bayern says Beckenbauer

Germany defender Philipp Lahm will stay with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich for at least one more season, Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer said on Thursday.

Contract negotiations between Lahm, 24, and Bayern broke down on Tuesday, raising the possibility the defender could move to another club.

Although contracted until 2009, Lahm has refused to sign an extension, but German tabloid Bild report new Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who takes over in July, does not want to see Lahm leave Munich in the summer.

“I think he will play for us for another year and then leave to join a club like Barcelona or Manchester United,” Beckenbauer told Bild on Thursday.

Both Spanish giants Barcelona and Premier League side United have expressed an interest in signing Lahm, who has won 39 caps for Germany.

Lahm first attracted attention at the 2006 World Cup after scoring the tournament's first goal and has been at Bayern since he was 13 after graduating through their academy system.

My View - Heard alot of club wants him, dunno can persuade him to go or not
