THE FOOTBALL THREAD Vol 2

Hey sub, nvr seen u posting here. U entering the fold? As for the Pool Arsenal match, well its very tight, i agree with shinobi. I have a friend who has been a true blue Chelski fan for the past 20 years. Now he's telling me patience pays off.

yeah its about time sub posted here ...

chelski surprised me with their 6-o win over man city! fluke?

C'MON U GUNNERS!!!!

another inconsistent season.... gee... is that what liverpool are now known to be?

i'm starting to think benitez gets the position wrong (to add up with tinkering). babel SHOULD NOT have played in the wing, benayoun should play attack through the centre, should have gotten a proven winger (sabrosa, alves), should have bought another player to fill for agger, if not, a player from their reserves. (seriously, hyppia was great at his prime, but please la... 34! maldini's better than him!), and finally, establish a top strike force ahead.

dunno if any would agree to this, but crouch and torres should have started the season. establish some sort of connection like dwight yorke and cole for man u. the only reason why crouch doesnt play as good as he was last season is due to his unhappiness. it's frustrating for him since benitez promised him first team football!!! LOL... even i consider my players when playing FM... if from the start they together, they can probably score more than they can now!
babel was fantastic on the wing. right from the go he was able to penetrate the defence with ease. he was given quite a free role and was probably the most effective player in red going forward. he carried on from his sub appearance against spurs. remember, when he came on liverpool had not won yet. he was one of the main reasons why they could turn the game.

maybe if u had actually watched the matches instead of playing FM you would know

peter crouch? when bellamy and fowler were part of the quartet, maybe. but he himself knows that in the presence of torres and voronin, he is obviously inferior, and is rightly satisfied with a place on the bench. he needs so many games just to get going. you give voronin a start, he gives you a goal. really effective striker

enough about liverpool.
get ready to watch arsenal gun them down...
benitez so confident about arsenal traveling to anfield.
Shit got 3 papers tmr, should i stay up and risk getting sleepy for my el olevel paper 1.
It could affect my whole life if i flunk...

ahahahahahaha

ahahHAHAHAHAHAAHAH
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!

hey... like i expected... a draw...

hey shinobi... i do watch some matches... FM was just a representation that i gave players a chance to play. just that maybe i was at the right place at the wrong time to judge players. coz most of the time i watch, they performed badly!

maybe i have bad luck...... :(

Liverpool1Gerrard 8

Arsenal1Fabregas 80

By Richard Clarke

Cesc Fabregas scored with 10 minutes remaining to secure a point at Liverpool on Sunday and take Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League.

Arsène Wenger’s side had trailed since the seventh minute when Steven Gerrard rifled a free-kick through the visitors’ wall and past Manuel Almunia.

This game had already been billed as a massive mid-term examination of Arsenal’s studious young outfit. But although they responded with a wonderfully mature performance, even Wenger himself would have been shifting nervously in his seat before Fabregas raced on to a through-ball from the excellent Alex Hleb to equalise.

The draw halted that superb run of 12 straight wins but it did extend Arsenal’s unbeaten run to 23 games over this season and last.

They return to the top by the narrowest of margins — goals scored — and second-place Manchester United come to Emirates Stadium next Saturday.

It was perhaps a mild surprise to see Wenger dispense with Theo Walcott from his starting line-up this afternoon. The 18-year-old had struck twice in the 7-0 over Slavia Prague in midweek but he was consigned to the bench as the Frenchman brought back Tomas Rosicky. It was the only change in personnel. However there was positional Alex Hleb was pushed up in support of Emmanuel Adebayor.

Liverpool had lost in midweek and, though unbeaten in the Premier League, had struggled to register wins at Anfield. Perhaps that is why Rafa Benitez opted for three strikers — Andriy Voronin, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt.

This had been billed as Arsenal’s first big test of the season. Despite their differing form, Liverpool at Anfield is always one of the sternest examinations of the campaign.

And this one got a whole heap tougher after six minutes when the home side took the lead.

The move started when Gerrard robbed Flamini on the right. Alonso fed the ball back to the England midfielder who fired low across goal. Almunia stretched his huge frame to turn the ball aside but it was quickly recycled to Alonso on the edge of the area. Fabregas clipped his compatriot as he tried to flick the ball through. Gerrard stepped up to rifle the free-kick through the wall and into the Arsenal net.

A body blow so early in the game.

The visitors came back with Hleb ‘s drive wide after Fabregas’ free-kick was scrambled away then, in the 17th minute, Pepe Reina rushed out to deny Adebayor after a sweeping move down the right.

The keeper was a hero on that occasion. But he nearly turned villain two minutes by needlessly rushing out to meet Rosicky as the Arsenal midfielder roared down the left. The Czech international easily lifted the ball over the keeper and Sami Hyypia clipped the ball off the line to Eboue on the far side. Unfortunately the Ivorian’s shot was wild.

Arsenal were cranking up the pressure and the Liverpool crowd were voicing their frustrations - despite the scoreline.

That nearly got worse for Arsenal when they failed the clear a corner and Gerrard unleashed a stinging volley from the edge of the area. Almunia spectacularly palmed the ball high over the bar.

It was turning into a stunning game played at blistering pace. Perhaps the both sides were used to Cup football having played two ties in two different competitions on this ground last season.

However, as half time approached, Arsenal’s fire faded. Just before the whistle, Adebayor went clear momentarily and his deflected shot looked have wrong-footed Reina but the keeper recovered.

Torres had been anonymous in the first half so it was no surprise the see him replaced by Peter Crouch at the break.

The lanky striker would have the first real chance after the restart when Almunia dived full-length to divert his long-range drive past the post in the 52nd minute.

Seconds later Arsenal would have their best opportunity to go level. Rosicky released Eboue in the right-hand channel and he thumped the ball against the base of the post. It bounced out to Fabregas who opted try and turn the ball into unguarded goal first-time and left-footed. He got in horribly wrong and Arsenal’s clearest chance of the game went high and wide.

Just past the hour, Crouch latched onto Voronin’s through ball and steered another shot wide. Then Toure hacked the ball away after the leaping Alonso nearly handled the ball over the line. Referee Howard Webb had already blown for the infringement.

Walcott replaced the unlucky Rosicky and joined Adebayor up front for the final quarter of the game. Shortly afterwards Nicklas Bendtner and Gilberto also came on as the visitors switched the 4-2-4.

John Arne Riise sent a dipping effort over the bar but the goal Arsenal deserved was just around the corner. It arrived with 10 minutes to go.

Hleb collected the ball on the left and tapped a wonderfully-weighted ball into the path of Fabregas. The Spaniard had timed his run to perfection and he stabbed the ball past Reina at the near post.

Arsenal might have stolen the points with four minutes left. Fabregas hit the base of the same post Eboue had rattled earlier in the half. Again the ball came out straight to the feet of an white-shirted player. This time Bendtner blazed over.

But almost immediately, the outstretched leg of Gallas prevented Gerrard from roaring through the plant home a winner.

At full time the Arsenal supporters were certainly happier than the home fans. Their side are now officially ‘tried and tested’ yet they are still top of the table.

Belief will be growing and growing at Emirates Stadium after this performance.

ALONSO CHEATED TO EARN THE FREE KICK that led to their goal! Replays show he dove like a swan!

FABREGAS IS GOD!

pool were just dam lucky coz AFC hit the post TWICE later on and could have won it!

ANYWAYS - AFC STILL TOP OF THE LEAGUE WITH ONE GAME IN HAND! Rest of the chasing pack can just relax and look "up" the ladder atthe Gunners!

BRING ON SHEFFIELD UTD IN the carling cup!

Kissmy axe, we shall see - meantime, just keep looking UP THE TABLE aite? yep and we have ONE GAME IN HAND!

Arsenal was so unlucky. How the hell can Fabregras and Bentner miss such simple sitters! It should have been 1-3!

Adebayor should stop talking to the press and just play football, he needs to improve a lot.

My ratings

Alumnia(7)- 2 great saves that prevented Steve Gerrard and that other bloke, couldn't do anything to stop that stunner goal from Steve Gerrard in the first half, I blame the wall.

Gallas(7)- Should have organised the wall in the first place, but still, tried to be inspirational by conducting lone attacks, too bad for the lack of support and the astonishment of the Arsnal forwards/midfield who were themselves wondering what he was doing so high up.

Clichy(7) - Made Kuyt work up a sweat, but was a little bit inhibited in his normal flank attack. Did not really link up well with Rosicky.

Sagna(7.5)- Did his job with minimum fuss, had to be on alert everytime Eboue lost the ball.Did a good job in shackling Steve Gerrard.

Hleb( 8) - Displayed his usual flair, but we can all see that he was one of those players singled out by Benitez through the defence. Was quite marked out of the game.Guilty of leaving his line off the wall that lead to the first goal.

Fabregras( 8.5)- A few sloppy passes, a few rash challenges, loved the fact that Hleb was attracting the attention from the liverpool defence, and relished in finding space and orchestrating the attacks.Should not resort to too many high balls to Adebayor. Also Guilty of breaking up the wall that lead to Liverpool's first goal.

Rosicky(7)- You can tell that he is really trying hard, but for me, I think he needs more match fitness, and more games to develop his link up play.Defended well except for one needless tackle.

Flamini(7.5) Did his job well, a dynamo, adapted to his left back position during the substitution and helped break up play on both left and central midfield.

Eboue(6.0) The only thing about him that irked me was his decision making, and his penchant of making fouls look alot worse than it is. Although I admit, the elbow into his stomach looked rightly illegal, but his reputation will always influence the referee's decisions.Maybe I'm just biased lah.

Adebayor(5.5) What the hell is wrong with this guy?He thinks since he had scored 6 goals this season he is already another Thierry Henry? Yes, he ran their defences tirelessly, but to me, he will only score once out of every 20 chances. He is not good enough for Arsenal.

Subs-

Gilberto- 1 sloppy pass that almost cost us a goal.Other than that, gave the team a bit more confidence, but he needs games as he looks very out of sorts.

Theo Walcott- Did not have enough time to wreak havoc. If I were Wenger, I would have played him centrally and give Hyppia hell.

Nicklas Bendner- Missed a sitter, enough said.
