ok softies. for those who alr gave up on radio (like me). feel free to rant on when and why. my story:

my taste in music was pretty swingy when i was young. the only thing constant was that i like things melodic. when i was young, i was stuck listening to the oldies from abba, bee gees, elton john and so on. so obviously i grew an appreciation for these kinda music.

then in kicked pop stars like britney and backstreet boys. that was primary school. got sick of them in sec 1 when my friend introduced me to the world of techno. went techno crazy for abt a year or 2 before my ears got sick of hearing the same groove over and over again in a diff key sung by diff ppl.

after that came rock and hard rock. starting with bands like u2, puddle of mudd, blink 182 and POD. those got me really interested in learning a musical instrument. then as i got all these songs on my mp3, i stopped listening to radio for a good while, about 2 to 3 years?

when i came back, it was back to pop on radio with the likes of justin timberlake and shakira. so that was my musical direction during most of my poly days up to end of year 2.

after that in came some friend with his dragonforce and sonata arctica albums. spamming me song after song till i got hooked. then wanting more heavy stuff, i ventured further with bands like COF, COB and FFDP.

finally one fine day, my mom switched on the radio and in came rnb. i was like WTF?!?! they dun allow heavy metal on radio but they allow songs that talk abt girls and sex? didnt sit very well with me and that was it. i officially gave up on radio since then. till now, its still rnb on radio. a few pop songs once in awhile, but i gave up on that alr.

ok thanks for taking ur time to read till this sentence. just another guy who's got too much time in his hands to rant abt random stuff :)

but if u wanna rant abt why u gave up on radio, feel free to do so here as i alr have hahah :)

Haha. I've also given up on radio ever since i've fell in love with metal. Lucikly, There is always the internet radio :).

Metal still being played. Especially on radio ria. Theres a slot called vicious volume. Altho, the show is entirely in malay language, but the songs are hardon!

Idk i once hated mainstream music but now to me as long as its nice music its fine regardless its mainstream or what.

I've not heard the radio for years man. I don't even know what's the "hippest" or the latest songs on the radio chart. :O

Then again, music is a subjective issue. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't.

Quite simple actually, radio in Singapore sucks. It suits mainstream listeners but the most diverse it gets is Death Cab for Cutie.... oh wait did 987 actually play that? No it was Miley Cyrus. lovelovelovelove.

come to think of it. i heard enter sandman once on a weekend, not sure how that happened. it was on the charts i think on some radio station. i was like WTF?! since when did metal appear on spore radio?? lol. oh well that was the only good thing i heard on the radio in quite a few years. as for the oldies station, i still enjoy it once in awhile when i'm in my dad's car. but i cant stand the other stations anymore, and its not abt "i dun like it cos it's mainstream." its cos it just sounds god awful to me!! so back to metal for me...headbang headbang headbang

The only radio I listen to would be Gold 90 FM, cause all the other channels keep replaying the Top 40 over and over. I've been listening to "Nobody nobody" 10 times in an hour, listened to that stupid "Dangerous" song 10 times in an hour, and that "*bleep* you" song 10 times in an hour. (okay, maybe I'm over-reacting with the figures but you'll see what I mean when every other minute are the mentioned songs)

Gold 90 FM doesn't replay songs over and over in a day, at least it didn't occur whenever I'm listening. I also listen to the classical channel, 105 FM was it? (forgot, sorry)

So basically, only these two channels. And 933 and Love 972 occasionally.

YES YES that was another major issue i have with radio stations nowadays. even my playlist in my 2gb mp3 player doesn't replay the same song as fast as radio stations!!

i love boy bands and pop songs over the radio
and 80s love song is my all time fav
hits like George Micheal.ToTo,Richard marx and so on.

EVER since rnb and gangsta rap started to hit th radio..
then thats the time im shut of the radio and just buy an mp3 player:)

Yah, not liking a song/music cause its mainstream is stupid. :)

I prefer any radios with good deejays, who can make me laugh. And of cause good music, even if its overplayed.

And also, a radio with good radio jingles/liners. And RIA 89.7 has the lamest jingles ever but they have the best music. 987fm and Power 98, is good. 987fm plays more of top 40s and Power 98 plays more mix of classics/local/top 40s .

i dont listen to the radio not because i dont like the songs on the radio.

its becos my phone doesnt have a built in radio. D:
so its just my song lib in my phone.
at home its music from my itunes.. so yup. no radio at all..

only the occasional bbc news or class 95 my parents listen to in the car.
haha.

Seems like the common consensus over here is that Gold 90's the only good station in Singapore (:, even plays stuff like ACDC once in a while haha

First of all, please don't insult 'gangster rap'. If you are not sure of what the hell you're talking about, then please don't. I like a lot of what people might call gangster rap, stuff like Cypress Hill, 2Pac and Dr. Dre. Not forgetting groups like Blackstar, or (old) Eminem(surprisingly his best songs are not singles so they never get played) or Immortal Technique.. However, if you are talking about Lil Wayne or Soulja Boy, then you obviously shouldn't be commenting on rap at all. Yes, the c(rap) they play on radio pisses me off, but since when have 98.7 and the lot ever played any Gangster rap to begin with?

Secondly, the thread starter seems to change his favourite type of music ever other year and then blames radio for changing the music it plays to suit what's currently hot on the billboards? It's obvious that you just hate 'rnb' and just because of the fact that they play it makes you hate the radio. Yet you actually listened to Britney, Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Techno for years(which in my opinion, is the lowest on the food chain)

Radio in Singapore has been quite shitty for quite a while now. But that's my personal opinion. Sure there's a really nice song once in a while, but music now to me is not the same as music then. I can still listen to Master of Puppets 10 years since I first started and it sounds good, but if when I hear a song on the radio that interests me for a couple of days(eg. some Lady Gaga song) I just get so sick of that same song when I listen to it after more than that.

The only radio stations worth listening in my opinion is Gold 90FM and Symphony 92.4

Seems that other radio stations like to milk the air-time like crazy. You can hear the songs repeat itself thousands of times over a gap of 24 hours. Especially if they're singles. And every single channel seems to play it. Man!

Now that I think of it, is it just that I've been shunning the radio for too long, or is there no radio station for alternate indie music? We've got too many channels for mainstream music, but no indie ones on the air.
(I'm not connected on the net 24/7 so internet radios are out, although I'll probably enjoy that more)
