"THE CIRCLE IS NOW COMPLETE..." - Completing your rig

How does it feel when you get awfully close to what you ever wanted?
I just got a Line 6 DL4, and a Highway 1 Telecaster over the weekend...
And it feels like I just completed my rig. Everything I'd ever want.

Fender American Stratocaster
It's been with me for 8 years. Wide fretboard, worn maple neck, fully stock. Made in the 80s. Still awesome for 20 years and counting.

Fender Highway 1 Telecaster
I just found over the weekend how raw a tele feels and plays.

Line 6 DL4
The DL4 does every kind of delay I can think of. And it's really well designed.
Short delay? Tick.
Long delay? Tick.
Volume swell? Tick.
Having all 3 of them in use in one song without bending down? Full marks.

Kimjawbetta Rutt
The Rutt? This this by far the most versatile gain pedal I've had. And I don't mean it by bending down and turning the gain knob. This thing does overdrive, rhythm distortion, thick fat leads - all with the work of a single volume knob on the guitar. Did I mention the distortion is pretty lovely?

It feels a bit giddy now with the feel that I don't need to GAS much more.
I'm sure some of you guys' GAS days are over. Come have a post and share...

When I got my USACG? Got the Openhaus? Got the Ibanez EM-5 Echomachines? The Analogue filter? The skreddy screwdriver? The Goose Boosty, Citrus and Muff? The Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+?

There have been so many facets of my gear hunt that have yielded the End All.

Or well, at least the Should-be-the-End-All.

I think the greatest pleasure is found in the enjoyment of it all. When you play and you hear the sounds you have in your head... when you record and you hear the same sounds again... when you practice and you just enjoy it even more because you hear those sounds.

Took me a couple of years to understand my musical direction and needs. And wants.

Where's pathin, he should be chipping in!

mwahahahahahahaha! Shreddy, you knew me too well! Damned. If you wasnt a guy and me not straight, i might have ask you to be my stead!

How, ai kia stead mai

anyway, back to topic, since everything also have liao, aint it obvious enough. Go do some music, write music, close to your heart.

Without context and music, all the gear we have will be nothing but rubbish, waste wood and useless electronic, not to mentioned the electricity bill we clocked after using those thing.

Or well, at least the Should-be-the-End-All.

You shouldn't be here... :p

I'd like to know who else is close to being complete, whether it be a few or many equipment.

Pathein: I (and many others alike) obviously bought guitar equipment to play music... you overstate the obvious leh.:-o

heh, sometime its the obvious that we often overlook while buying. Instead of music, the buying become like a competition, a false front we used to fill up the void in our mind that has nothing to do with music

anyway, for me, theres only beginning and no ending. As long as theres something which i think can help in the music i wanna do, buying is never any option, its a must. As long as i still wanna do anything remotely associated with music/nonsense noise and sound that is

Phew! after "collecting" close to 70 pedals and 7 electric guitars over the past few years, I think I have finally found what I was looking for.

Right now I'm simply happy with my Fender USA Deluxe HSS, my Foxrox Zim , my redwitch moon phaser, my Boss RV3, mojovibe and Budda wah.

my gibsons, Godin, EB and my other fenders are just collecting dust, together with my other pedals. But I know I will call on them one day.

I must say that I have enjoyed the journey, finding that elusive tone, and I my Gas attacks have gone down significantly. My credit card bills look healthy nowadays, and I do not get panic attacks or dreams about gear at night when I sleep unlike last time.

I have learnt to appreciate what I really want, what sound I feel most comfortable with, and how to use my gear to function in different settings.I find that to be priceless.

I wonder how long this will last though, because I just saw a Fender Custom Shop going for cheap somewhere....

I can't say I've completed assembling my rig...don't think I ever will, but I'm really happy with what I'm using at the moment. Anything else that I get is but a bonus/luxury, really.

The only panic attacks I've gotten from GASSING were because of online scammers trying to cheat me of my money. But it's part and parcel of buying stuff online. Hardly get GAS attacks anymore....these days I actually think I induce my own GAS attacks. heh.

I'm using a Tyler Studio Elite HD (HSS) - most versatile guitar that I own. Single coils and a Humbucker help to cover lots of ground, and the midboost works to make it sound a little bit more like a Les Paul than a Strat, so it's pretty cool. Great playability and build on this guitar as well. The only thing above this that I could ask for is a Tyler SE HD with a Schmear finish :D

As for efx, I'm really very happy with my TC Electronics G-System. I hate(can't do it) tap-dancing, so this unit really suits my needs, while allowing me to use my favourite drive pedals. The onboard modulation and delay efx suit my needs to a tee as well. For distortion rhythm and lead tones, I use the Toneczar Openhaus. Definitely one of my best purchases ever. I also have a BJF Dyna Red for the classic rock distortion tones, though I tend to use the Openhaus more freq, cos I play in church and its tones are more suitable for the songs I play. For OD I switch between the Shannon Helios OD and the Fulltone OCD. The OCD, in particular, makes my day everytime I play with it. This v3 seems to be a gem - several ppl have tried it and commented that it sounds different (and quite a bit nicer) than the others (including v3s) that they've tried. I'm not certain abt that, all that matters is that I really like what I'm hearing. I also have a rutt for fun at home. :)

Amp-wise, I have a 65 Deluxe Reverb. Great for warm clean tones, but not as great for handling distortion for flat out rock. I think this is the portion of my rig that has been relatively neglected over the past 2 yrs, but my room's too small for a nice head+cab for now.

I'm still not completely happy with my rig cos I realise that I have so much to work on with respect to the most important part of my rig - my hands. So this is my biggest focus for now. It's been a great journey thus far!

That definitely sounds like a sick sick kickass rig Kenneth. I'd think my circle will be complete with the G-system, and a worthy head/cab.. but till then its more fiddling and looking around.

ahh my rig is more or less complete for now. after going on goose chases for so long. i've finally settled for what i'm currently using now.

ibanez prestige 2660 and a mim 60th strat. effects are just a tonelab le with a GCB95 in the loop and all that through a roland jc120 amp.

i guess my search for other gears will never end as long as manufactures keep churning out newer pedal and guitars. but for now. i'm pretty contented. =)

i gues the only thing that bothers me now is choosing a new multi efx :P GT10 or a G system. haha!

but yes as kennethC said, it's been a great journy so far!

like many here, i've had my fair share of the chase. but someone once said all things are with more spirit chased than enjoyed. its part of the journey as kenneth said, and definitely part of the fun of being a guitarist. i've pretty much gone the whole circle, probably twice over, but coming to terms with my own needs was harder than i thought. i realized i really didn't need that many pedals/fx/guitars. heh.

plus also got to come to terms with what the wife thinks i really need. :(

so, i've settled, pretty much comfortably with my JSX amp, a warmoth custom and a TC Elect M350 multi fx. like kenneth, i am very happy with this setup. I've not had any major GAS in awhile. is this complete? well...define "complete"?...hehe. am still looking at some additions to the studio, like a TC G Major, a Novation Synth and perhaps a Rocktron Prophesy II.

In the meantime, I've put aside playing with toys and tried to concentrate on my skills. bought a couple of DVDs. now to find time to sit down and watch...

Im still gassing for a MusicMan John Petrucci BFR (Tobacco Burst) & a G-system to midi-switch my triamp.

That definitely sounds like a sick sick kickass rig Kenneth. I'd think my circle will be complete with the G-system, and a worthy head/cab.. but till then its more fiddling and looking around.

Thanks bro, it's definitely not sickkk, compared to many others' here. Mine only uses 4 patch cables (ok and 1 more from the G-system to the amp), and one guitar cable! :)

I don't think you'll regret getting the G-system, to be frank. Tried the Nova System, but it's a far cry from it's older brother, from what I can see/hear.

MKII? The difference between them is MKII has no reverb, Ch 1A’s gain is also the master volume, 100% clean, tones slightly modified for all channels. Don’t forget about the lights too. I’ve tried the Alex Lifeson model. Warmer sounding than my MK I. MK I has more grit. Both have D.I Box.

For my triamp to have midi switching with g-system, I gotta purchase the MSM1 module from Hughes & Kettner.

It seems most of you still have your rigs incomplete... :D

"Where do you draw the line?" seems to be the apt question to ask.

If I had 100K I could probably build up a studio and have lots of studio equipment, gig equipment, a band set inside, aircon, sound proof...

But at this point I've decided I'm
1. not going to get a powerful good amp because I underuse it
2. not going to get a tone of effects because I hate tapdancing
3. not going to have more than 3 guitars because I hardly ever play proportionally on each guitar when it's more
4. not going for high end equipment which doesn't fit my objective - a songwriter and an occasionally gigging guitarist.

There's really a lot of "better" equipment out there but for now I think my rig fits my objectives like a T.

Hehehe bro Thor has a big point well I think am also nearing there, it took my a long while to get there. 4 guitars, PRS SAS 1997 which has been with me for almost 5 years and it will be with me for many years. This 2 years was quite an insane year for me my harem shot up from 2 to 4 and I have a self imposed cap of no more guitars for me. My other 3 guitars, Gibson ES339, Gretsch 6120 and Telecaster 1969 thinline have replaced the PRS as my main squeeze for the moment.
Amps well very satiated now with the Mesa Heartbreaker which is my main amp and am still waiting for my Rivera R30 to return from randolf.
Pedals my jam/gig board is done with the Mesa V1 providing the main distortion and is always perpetually on, maybe a DL4 in the future but not important, my at home rig with the TC Electronic Gsharp is serving me real well for delays/modulation whereas the barber tone pump is my main OD.
I should be GAS less for a long time.

I think i am nearing this stage. I feel Thro bro really bring up a good point here, in fact i have some similarity as him.

1. Good tubeamp is definetly not a need for me. I have my dream tubeamp, but i wont get it unless i gig very often and can bring it to the venue, set it up easily.
2. Effects, im happy with my current rig, and i can say i dont really look at pedal threads nowadays.
3. I have 2 guitars now..hopefully i will just own 1 in the future. I see no point in getting so many guitars if i am only going to use 1.

Whenever i have a GAS attack, I will ask myself is this a need or a must. I find that when you know what you want, and why you want it for, one will defiently be able to complete their rig sooner.

Sorry if i sound abit off topic, but i find its a good point bring out by Thor. Cause sometimes when i look back at the stuffs i bought and calculate the $ i spent, i do find its abit too much and cant really justify it. Well unless you have $ that you wont be able to use finish in your lifetime lah.

G-system is da bomb...

i think end of the day ... its that sound in your head... so far... i think im pretty happy with the way i sound ... to the extent i dont mind lugging 60kg worth of gear to play a few songs...

still awaiting the schroeder ... the openhaus... and my composite acoustic. i think ...

once these are in..the circle is quite complete...

or as complete as i can afford it to be...

complete... hehe.... how many times ive said ''there...im done''......but i agree... i think the love of trying new gear, experimenting with new stuff will always be there. i love tht actually
