The Best Jamming Place and The worst...

=AEnimic

I totally agree with you man.

My favorite studio(s) are O'lando and Flame green on upper thomson road. CRATE and MARSHALL amps! They also have enough power sockets for pedals and stuff.

goth virus, i have got to agree with you on that, but getting all jamming drummers to learn the proper technique of hitting cymbals is impossible. The best to do is not to whack it as if it pissed you off naw mean. And yes mr dukes dont start comparing. He is right about his statement man. I have seen metal/hardcore/all the crazy ass music drummers who don't crack cymbals as well and they are crazy! proper technique bruddaa

mmm

( hhahhah...another potential studio owner/worker/watsoever taking advantage of free publicity stunts..... )

i have a question. when a person breaks / damages something in the studio, what is the studio's stand on this? charge 100% for repairs? or just a nominal sum? and if an item, say cymbal is cracked and can no longer perform nor be repaired, how? pay full amount or nominal sum again? and what do you think IS the best win-win soln for this :D

im v intrigued cos based on experience, my failure to check the prior condition of the bass drum head before playing resulted in me paying for damages totally not my fault. so yah i had to pay $30, which is reasonable because the market price for the head is usually around there. but when i came back the next week, it was never replaced. this was a certain jam studio at bugis btw. haha that particular jam studio slowly started to disappoint :/

hehehh

Ah...please la...not another studio promoter/owner/watsoever taking advantage of the free publicity stunts in here....

2 summore...maybe the same person...hahahhah

Bring Your Own

If possible bring your own cymbal, guitar anythings you can bring. First you will take care of it.Sec you don't need to pay for the damage .hahha...

Drumming and breaking cymbals

I suppose it's the the clamp on the cymbal+stand faulty(clamps)+angle+after impact force+amount of force..
These 5 factors are probably enough to break a cymbal..
1. Some beginner drummers like to clamp until friggin tight.. obviously leave no room for the cymbal to follow-thru after the impact.. putting strain on the cymbal hole(centre).
2. Stand Faulty, some studios do not have the dense wool between the screw(part of the clamp) and the base.. so the force is not distribute evenly from the clamp thus create dents or even crack in the cymbals.
3. Angle of the drumsticks hitting the cymbal.. once again some beginner drummers might find whacking cymbal with the shaft of the stick at almost 90 degrees fun.. but this can cause severe damage to the cymbal(being disfigured or crack).
Diagram: the stick--->I (-) <---The cymbal (I dun think it's comprehensive..)
4. After impact force.. Okay this almost apply for everything on drums I suppose.. Drumhead+cymbals.. If you allow rebounce the material can resonate.. if not lotta pain..
Some beginner drummers like to hit and push(for dunno what reason--maybe attempting to do choke).. Well, this lack of knowledge to choke properly can cause lotta damage.
Analogy: You try to throw a nail at yourself.. 'probably' wont hurt you much.. compared to pushing it into your skin..
5. Amount of force.. with all the proper way to drum I suppose.. No matter how hard you whack it's very unlikely the cause of breaking cymbal.. It's when you do wrong stuff and you whack hard..
Analogy: Use number 4 analogy.. but.. instead you're hammering the nail onto your skin
**Sorry analogy a bit lame..

These are my personal opinion.. and it's kinda outta topic.. but someone asked about it right >,<"

got to say stone jams will be improving their room sooner or later for the better quality for jammer or so..

well its kinda hard to maintain the jam room

esp cymbals..

always have crack once in a month...

haish...

so need to buy a new one every now and down

The worst jamming place i've been so far is at Jurong East. The customer service is damn horrible, the auntie is so rude and the equipments sucks. I forget what the name was, don't know whether they're still in business. It's been a few years since i've went there. That will be my first and my last.

Good post by north. the analogy is not lame dude. it makes perfect sense haha.

So drummers out there, may you avoid cracking cymbals in the near future :D

hmmm

Still prefer yishun jam, Lee studios, room 4 and 5.. with elevated guitar amps... and bass amps. just bring ur own bass and guitars... only drums on the down side... and there a kopi place reasonable price..

Beat merchant feelin' like getting worse... room getting dirty everytime I go.. after jamming duno where to relax and talk... ever kena shoo away from a shop cause we seat too long with only kopi and tea hahaha...

Soundmix - Jaln Besar, (RIP)
big room with old sofa.. normally jamming rooms only two speaker for vocals, but this place there are 4 or 5 speaker, super clear... upset only guitar amp, they only provide one smarvo stack and a combo.. not enough for a big room..

Ann studio - commonwealth (still ard?)

Inside provision shop! haha anyway, nice place to jam and friendly guy.. simple setup.. with laney amps...

Worst:
Seng chai - jurong... sucks to the core...

Rythm Masala - yishun (perviously seng chai).. No comment.
