haha that's ok. i think it was some time back when i brought my bass to school to do a full set up between classes... 3 hr break la. fyp is nuts! can die, seriously. only free after feb :(

anyway i need to get my slapping back up to par... too much pick/fingerstyle lately :/

yeah .. me too .. i was trying to transcribe "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" Christmas carol from a piano piece to a bass the past two days. Trying using fingerstyle chords but the intervals and octaves were to wide apart i figured i rather go tapping. So after two days of hard work trying to figure out my movements and memorize them .. i'm back to tapping again ..

Was at luther yesterday and i had the privillege to meet Melviin Wong .. mr lowlife6 ... boy man .. i tried out his SR886 bass and his malaysian custom ZON-michael manring-lookalike bass that sound amazing and sounded like some John Patitucci bass ..

Also tried Bong's now-up-for-sale TRB6II ... amazing tone ..

Kelvin .. if you read this please control yourself okay?? .. ahhaha .. =P

Not interested in his bass. haha.

sure or not?? .. don't later MSN me and tell me that you got a new Yamaha TRB 6II that used to be Bong's bass .. okay .. just kidding dudes ...

Happy nu year... Actually what i want is the TRB6, not TRB6ii. Even though i personally rate the TRB6ii's sound as better than its predecessor, I find that the older one is better overall. Personal thing la. The TRB6 is as close as one can get to the old Patitucci model without the humungous price tag.

in my custody right now is my father's Ibanez RD500 (pic above) which he bought during the swee lee SALE recently. when he reached home, he discovered that it has active circuitry so the dislike was immediate- being an old school player, his preference is all things passive.

i rate the RD500 highly & find my dad's old school sentiments a little difficult to empathize. as the saying goes: the older you get, the more resistant you are to change... i'm waiting for him to cool down, might convince him to just sell it, but i'm having a good time with the SD500 here, very versatile beast this one. 8)

Nice bass sub. I tried one with bad setup at swee lee long ago, but it did shine tonally in some ways...versatile. Does it have a 5 string version? Like a Lakland without the price tag

ibanez currently has the 5string version, the RD905/ 505 but these are not available at the distributor's...

you are right about the unimpressive out-of-the-box setup: the G-string was choked at the upper frets, had to raise the action. it also came with generous relief, got that covered as well.

Almost bought the red/orange one at the sale as well but didn't like the look of the huge headstock. Yeah, I'm shallow :)

HOR KELVIN! .. now you are tempting me to try to get a Yamaha TRB6 instead .. mans .. i was looking through warmoths website and trying to get a price quotation for my future dream bass ala Custom Gecko 6 to be named something ... okay i dunno ..

YES YES .. the RD series are nice. Gave them a try not too long ago and i must say i'm pretty impressed with the tone. But of course the out-of-box action always makes your playing experience a horrible one.

i didn't like everything about the RD initially, the body looks too much like Cort's Curbow, headstock is repulsive- until i tried it. it's easily an ugly duckling with nice tones/ playability waiting to be unleashed by the player.

Seriously, get the Trb6. Your warmoth might cost more, and you wont get to try it. Besides, the Trb is out of production, and PROVEN to be one of the best 6 stringers for the money.

okay ... you've really got me thinking ...

i think i'll start saving up for one and start looking ...

roughly how much?? .. 2K ??

This is from a while back...
Unfortunately the Lakland 55-94 is my friend's :(

A Dream to play, though! Best 5-stringer I've ever played, and the tone beats anything I've played so far out there. Ok maybe it's a tie between this and the Warwick FNA, but still.
