Tapestry '08!

Yea.....!!! my bands playing at Clarke Quay between 3-5. Heard they getting the instruments from Fourtones. and the best part is they providing all their Mesa' amps...wooooohooooo....!!!!!! Mesa Boogie...!!!!!

I have mixed feelings regarding the Mesa Boogie...

On one hand, I am thrilled to have these wonderful equipments... On the other hand, it would be quite a sad sight to see bands misusing (or should I say, abusing) these wonderful amplifiers...

I played in tapestry before and I have seen some serious abuse on those Marshall stacks, especially when certain bands like to put full drive and loud volume... I pity these beautifully crafted amps...

I would prefer the organizers to use cheaper amps instead...

Oh yeah baby....Mesa Boogie amps! For bass too?

I'd prefer a Hartke for bass...or better,an Ampeg SVT. It'll be an ass to abuse these type of amps..sheesh!

Yeah truth been said, but there are certain individuals who doesn't even bother about taking care of amps... They just whack the amps hard & as long as it don't spoil, it is okay to do so...

When I hear the crackling sound of the amps during the performance, I feel darn sad not only bec the fact that the amp is being pushed beyond limits, but dammit!! I am gonna be using the amp later also!!

some noobs like to boost all the bands of the preamp eq. man created a volume knob for a reason

i'd imagine the bands would be getting a LITTLE bit more info other than just venue/time? no technical/sound check etc?

hahaha neuro182, i thought wat u said abt how the bands using the mesa amps to be hilarious. u seem to feel sad when pple crank the amps but dont amps sound best when cranked? and if ure talking abt the crackling sound, u shouldnt pity the amps cos no damage is done, more likely the damage is done to the speakers when they are pushed beyond their handling capability or to your ears. amps are meant to be pushed and played loud. u dont buy a 120watt mesa to play at bedroom lvls.

There is no need to crank the amps. I myself play at half the volume, 3/4 the max. It's all about equalizing your sound to the whole band, drums especially. After you've stable your sound with the drums, the bass and the lead guitar comes in. Then all the other knobs, etc.

But my band is guilty of cranking the bass amp to maximum everytime though, heh heh heh.

hey dudes and dudettes of soft,

Oligarchy will be hitting the stage over at Central Mall at 2pm on 17th (sunday). do drop by and catch us cos we have 20++ copies of our EPs up for grabs. see ya there!

i think u cum, sound check and then perform uh brudder...
if i'm not wrong, for previous years' tapestry events there were soundchecks a couple of hours before the actual thing... so i thought the standards would have been more or less there

to do a soundcheck before the actual set while the audience waits for you is quite unprofessional

Kudos

to the Tapestry event organizers, the single sound engineer at Central Square who was sitting there for the 16+ hours of the event, and the other bands that performed.

(Takes the opportunity to advertise... =P) : Lucid's just unveiled it's new logo, and it's first recording on Myspace. Drop by www.myspace.com/lucidsg and http://www.new.facebook.com/pages/Lucid/23130679425 to check out photos of the gig (yeah, our photographer's damn efficient), and listen to our tracks.

Rock on

power failure sia on the 16th.greatt.

well i think power failure is something out of their control though. the most they can do is probably highlight the power shortage to the management of The Central (its not Central Mall actually) and they'll look into it.

i somewhat heard that the management of The Central is threatening to pull the switch cos we're too noisy and rowdy or something (there were like 5-6 security guards for some reason). but whatever it is, i have to give it up to the Tapestry Committee to actually get the situation under control and let the busking event continue.

well i think it depends heavily on different situation. for competitions normally, i believe the organizers will call up competitors to head down pre-show for a sound check, taking down their levels of the amps they used to minimize time consume to achieve the best sound when the bands on stage. certain gigs/shows do that too, they advice bands to remember the levels of the amp knobs so they can just plug, set and play without testing sounds on stage. others might just equalize through the mixer when you're performing.

but for tapestry, i guess it's pretty alright to set up, do a simple sound test before performing. afterall, i don't think they have enough time to request the attendance of all performers pre-event to do a soundcheck.
