It is so cool to see that her dedication and hard work are paying off.

Read about her win at http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5h9tslIbI90xRZO9YzQBccqxrlQVg

Read about how she made the switch from singing english to chinese. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanya_Chua

"She speaks Mandarin, English, and Indonesian, which is mutually intelligible with Malay."

maybe she's going to sing Indo next?

she came a long way. I remember seeing her playing new year count down show back in 1997 at marina square promoting her first english album. The cross over to mando side actually seen some interesting chinese songs which is rather of her unique style i thought

anyway, its been a good year for singa artists as well, other then Tanya, stephanie sun, joi chua was nominated for the best female singer award, some of our local muso was nominated in the same ceremony for best music arrangement, song writing and lyric as well.

well, she came a longer way than that...

I've always admired her, since the days she was singing english pop covers in Dada (a pub in Boat Quay), with her band Private Collection.

Though her image, style and music (and even lingo) has changed, evolved and matured so much over the years, I still like the Tanya Chua I first saw, and believe very much that that is then her real self. She was sexy, energetic, and dared to be different.

As opposed to the current style she is being marketted, the images of her good old pub days will stay in my memory.

Cheers
