Hi, recently tried swirling on a bass, after trying few times. Finally got the trick to do it. The laccquer is not that fantastic as im using can spray for that, im looking for laccqer airbrushing for the moment.

u need to add alot of clear coats, n ALOT of wet sanding, n then u gotta buff it shinny. n the worst part is the WAITING process between the coats, as they have to be dry(realli dry) b4 u can add another layer!!!

N after all that, u gotta let it really dry n harden!!! U gotta wait abt 2 mths all in all AT LEAST, if u realli want gd quality

and then the cheapo spray cans WILL develop hairline cracks over time. hate can spray finish.

edder: yea understand that can spray will have cracks. Looking for shops willing to spray laccquer tho.

PinkSpId3r: Just trying the colours for fun, will look for more colours next time!

Marksman: camo :( going for reservist next week. Thks anyway

check auto workshops...just bolt a scrap of wood to your neck pocket to act as a handle, mask off any areas you dont want sprayed..

im tight with the guys in the BMW workshop so i got a body finished in a lovely shade of Z3 green before..turned out killer

great swirl job btw..

Nice....I'm trying to DIY my own guitar body now. The owner before the guy who sold it to me spray painted a really garish colour. Now I'm having fun trying to sand it off. Piang eh....

What kind of paint works best? I'm tempted to just use those Nippon spray paints. Else, I'll just get those wood-patterned stickers to paste on the body.

Yo bro....

A very cool workmanship and congrats for your effort.

Maybe you wana post your price for the swirl work and softie can decide if its too ex or less......

Like your work.....maybe can do a pink/blue/black/white for my upcoming project ibanez guitar.......

Cheers,

Ady

Looks decent :smt023

However, put some water on top of it after you're sure the paint have dried. It'll be an approximate to how your current paint job will look like under the clear coat which magnifies every single error.

A step up from spray cans would be those mini jam type spray guns eg. preval spray guns. You'll have to source out your own paint and I recommend the Chroma Series by Dupont if you want to DIY.

Unsane is right though, auto workshops are the most cost effective and worry-free measures to take. BMW and Mercs use an exceptionally high quality paint by PPG I believe and they have all the necessary HVLP equipment to give your guitar the perfect paint job.

heh, tried using using colours, let me know what you think. Will be bringing to those autos for clear coats soon!
