Suggestions for a 2x10 Cab

LOL. Just saw ur post on talkbass. Overkill? Thunderfunk 550-B? You got that right! haha.

Congrats! :)

Thanks. Couldn't resist. Been gassing for a Thunderfunk for the longest time. A 2x10 may be loud enough (or way too loud) but a 4x10 would definite get the wife complaining.

Borderlinx will be a good choice.

I just ship two basses over for just 250+ SGD w/ GST.

Whereas, it's around 300+ elsewhere.

Getting the Thunderfunk shipped in through Borderlinx so that'll give me an idea of how accurate the shipping calculator is. If it's spot on, I'll probably order an Avatar Neo 210.

i am dying for a 2x10 xl for the longest time but end up with a 4x10, they got no stock. now i need to find a way how to gutted out my A100 combo and build a cab with the 15". try to sold it off to get a 2x10vx so i can mix both paper cone and alumunium

i know there are some folks in KL that can build cab. so my other option if needed is to replace those speakers with other speakers. i think should be cheap enuff to just import and ordered speakers than the whole cab.

just an idea that i been toying around with.

how's the 4x10? couldn't you place an order for the 2x10xl?
i tried but they got no ETA on the 2x10 XL. they are so focus on the sale that is going on with. i check with them a few times and since its good sale with good prices on the cabs might as well get the 4x10.

the 4x10 its not just the power or wattage. it has a deep deep tone and move some serious air compare to the 15" which tends to be more on the treble side. the punch is much more noticeable on the 4x10 compare to 1x15.

i was using the 100 watts hartke A100 head to drive the 4x10 *grinz*. i need to get a better head.

so far did not regret and yes it can get a little loud but i keep it between 1-2 on the vol.

Lordie: is it the 4x10xl or vx?

thinking of getting the hydrive man. but torn between the 2x10 combo or the 4x10 with the LH500 head. heh

I tried the hydrive and I'm not very impress with it. I think it might be the bass fault? LOL

I think it sounds alittle too "tight", there's no range to the different sound. ahhh, it's hard to explain.

hahaha.. papercone is not for me ;p

4x10 and LH500 is steam lah.... but i would scrouge around for another head, choices are very limited.

i was thinking of getting 2x10 VX as a extension cab to the 4x10. to create a hydrive type sound??

A 2x10 and a 4x10...that'll keep the neighbours awake...

Heard good things about the XL series of cabs. Was initially looking at a 2.5XL but City Music said they were sold out and discontinued.

Anyone tried the Eden D210XLT/XST?

i might have a problem when i move back to singapore. currently all my gears are in KL and i got this sweet 2 storey super-link house with 4 bedrooms *grinz*. converting 1 of the rooms for my fun room. might add an el-cheapo acoustic drum for the occasional drum and bass ensemble.

Looks interesting enough. Think a 4x10 may be an overkill in a HDB flat. A 2x10 would take less space and be portable enough to carry around if need be.

I've got a HA3500 and a 410xl in my HDB flat, as long as you don't turn the volume above 1, it's fine :)

What I like about it is that I can have a good clean sound without getting any distortion from the speakers.

I used to own a Yamaha combo, which I personally find very good, but at louder volumes, I find that the sound gets a bit distorted.

With the 410xl cab and the 3500a head, i don't get any distortion at all, which is what I really like about it, plus it's a hybrid amp which I swapped out the 12ax7wa tube to a better sounding JJ ecc83s tube, sounds even better now :)

Just the main thing with the head and the 410xl cab in a HDB flat, don't turn the volume past 1, it's loud enough, won't annoy the neighbors, and you can get some good clean tone without any distortion from the speakers.

I actually wanted to get the 4.5xl from them, but they had no stock and their 410xl order was coming in, so I got that instead.

Think he's referring to the sinlge tube in the preamp of the Hartke HA3500.

whether its enough to warm up the sound i guess. =)
I've never tried a full tube bass amp head before, but having a tube preamp section does warm up the sound a lot, compared to a fully soid state preamp.

i think pre-amp tube section is the part where it's gonna affect the sound the most, as compared to the power amp section.

as for 1 tube in the pre-amp is enough or many tube stages in the pre-amp section, it's anybody's guess, you'll never know the difference until you hear the difference of a 1 tube pre-amp vs a 3 tube pre-amp.

moreover different manufacturers have different circuit design for the tube pre-amp section, so i don't think there'll be any adequate comparison between 1 tube and 3 tubes, etc...

it's more like comparisons between different manufacturer's designs in their tube pre-amp section rather than how many pre-amp tubes they put in there...

but we're already going out of topic already lol :)

Ah ok...didn't realise the HA3500 had a tube pre. And yes, we seem to have got way off topic...

So anyone else have any suggestions for 2x10 cabs?
