Hi Guys,

I've just started picking up guitar playing for a few months, and I currently own a a very old guitar which cost me sgd35 (bought in Malaysia). I am thinking of getting a good guitar since i really wanted to explore my interest in this field.

I've looked through the guitar in Yamaha Centre in Tampines Mall and i saw Yamaha APX500 and the cost is around SGD4**. The other model is Yamaha APX700 and the price is around SGD8**. Anyone of you all can give me some opinion on which model that i should get?

Any advice from you guys are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all your help. Cheers!

The APX700 has a solid spruce top, which means the tone will improve over time as the wood 'opens up'. So if you can afford the APX700, go for it. The mahogany back and sides ensure that the tone is well-balanced... The brightness of the spruce and the mid-brightness of the mahogany should produce quite a bright tone, though the small body of both models might make them lack a bit of bass response.

But try them both out, generally I'd go for the APX700 if I were you but that's me, since I'm a big fan of the spruce + mahogany wood combo. Bright yet balanced.

Forgot to add, the APX700 would be ideal if you're really serious about guitar.. If you don't think your interest will last very long, try not to spend so much. But I take it that you're serious since you already have a guitar and are upgrading. :)

Really thanks for your reply...So you mean the longer we play using Yamaha APX700, the sound will become better and nicer? other than this 2 model... what other model or brand that you can suggest to me... i prefer something not to big/thick and is in Black Color.

APX series lack bass response and a bit of projection, as expected, but plugged in, I heard they sound great. The APX series are designed to be played plugged-in. So you definitely have the option of plugging in if you perform down the road. A good investment if you ask me. :)

if u want good acoustic tone without having to plug into an amp (i.e APX series) try the yamaha LL6, pretty decent tone, the price is ard the apx700
