Sub Decay Blackstar taste test

Damn hard to find pedals that don't sound like pedals... but this guy would thrash a Metalzone.

Btw, speaking of which. Blueark, did the Keeley Metalzone impress you? It sure didn't impress me...

i am guessing your blackstone would be an example of a pedal that doesnt sound like one - as malcolm said as well, the most transparent OD he's heard.

i can appreciate that kinda tone, but not really my thang... just goes to reminds us of the camps that we are in when it comes to flavours of distortion. maybe my taste is closer to what shredcow agrees with (at least for distortion)

anyone else care to share their opinion of the soundclips and take sides in this healthy discussion on distortion tones? :D

Well..... yeah, you could say that. People would be hard pressed to believe it ain't a pedal.. maybe think its the amp's channel selector. :P

However, for the BS, if you turn up the internal treble trimpot... you would get a slight fizziness. That would "give it away."

haha.. my taste in distortions is more towards transparency, little compression and uniqueness. I want my guitar to come thru that pedal... not have... like... " oh, its a Marshal tone." or "oh its a TS kind of drive."...

Why does the second clip sound like my EMG 81 pickup on a clean channel when it's low on battery :? Except without the clarity on the single notes, lol.
