Studio headphones

Hi all I'm planning to get a pair of headphones (TO BE USED IN A STUDIO SETTING) for below uses:

- listening to track off cd players, ipod and playing drums meanwhile
- following the metronome while isolating outside noises
- other studio applications that I may not have realised

What type of headphones should i get? I did some research and came out with
Audio Technica's ATH-M40Fs or the ATH-M30s? Will it be good for my cause? Or would I have overspent?

On top of that, what is a monitoring headphones?

All fellow drumming brothers, I appreciate your replies!

Monitoring earphones from what i noe is usually used for recording purposes when u want to use for monitoring the mix. Its like a headphone version of Studio Monitors. What this monitor earphones does is give the true sound (ie flat extended frequency) of the audio, because most headphones out there may have an inherent bassy or trebly coloring of the tone to the audio. So that when u mix the audio u have a true picture rather than getting a too bassy or too trebly mix (due to the coloration of the headphones). So they may be abit pricey

For your purpose, i thnk those noise isolating headphones will be good enough if ur main concern is to isolate outside noise when following the metronome. Are there any other concerns?

i got the ATH-M30s. all i can say that it's real good for the price and very versatile pair of headphones. havent tried the 40s but i heard it's much better. but more ex.

I'd like to ask how you got the ATH-M30s and how much were they?

Use Crossroads earphones. My ipod is not even maxed out and i can barely hear my drums when im playing. And yes they are affordable. From the shop with lots of teddy bears in adelphi.

go to Stereo electronics at causeway point

there's a wide array of headphones and earphones for you to try
you may bring your own player to try out
