String Rusting Mystery! Please Help!!!

i started using slinkies
pretty cheap, but after 2 weeks (if if under heavy use) you can see rust forming on the strings

switched to wyres (from maestro), pretty good, but there's still some rust
lasted longer then the slinkies (although i broke the A bass string after 6 weeks)

after that i switched again to DR extra life (those with colours!)
they're really great!
so far there has been no rust or stains whenever i use them!
still on my pack of DR now
ive had experience with using DR elife with my acoustic, and those things lasted for months (if you dont mind the tone that is)

It isn't a joke , my strings would rust after 2 days of playing. Spoilt the whole guitar playing experience , studying food and nutrition in secondary school , i went on an oat diet , eating oats and milk for breakfast , lunch and dinner for 3 days. Abstaining from junk food and the like. Made a whole difference! Cleaning the internal system could help in reducing the amount of acids/bacteria/animals living in your sweat. hope it helps

whoa this thread has been a great help for me. i thot that strings rusting would be inevitable in singapore's humid climate

hahaha sorry but that sounds really funny. i think eating oats for a few days is pretty extreme! hahaha but hey if it works why not

yeah agreed. if you really do have problems with sweaty palms then why not get an anti pespirant(sp?) and spray it over your hands before you play. Maybe a little too drastic for home practice but for when the sweaty palms get bad when you're feeling anxious and about to get on stage to gig or something.

tell u what man..i'm using DR dimebag gauges strings.. i can play for more than a month and i still no need change string..they only turn black..not rusty..
its not about the brand, its about how often u touch your guitar..

all those things about cleaning or even OILING of your strings are meaningless(oh god..)

do u know that if your strings are less than 1 week old, u can actually remove the rust? u just need to play them more often.. somehow the magic appears and the rust would be removed..

i have a guitar hardcase which i never used...
hang my guitar on a rack everyday..morning will kena sunlight..afternoon i not sure..
windows are opened big big..
i still play even if my hands are wet..

last time i used to change string after every 20 hours of playing, regardless of rust or not..
now i stopped..cuz its too expensive to do that...hahahhaha...

the key thing is...u just need to play everyday...not less than an hour please.. do some shredding would be good..

okay now we all now wad kinda price we should deal with ur guitar when ur selling them. =D . ha. kidding. hmm yea. i find wad u said true too. JUS PLAY EM !! u let it rot. they're make u rot.

+1 to JaarVis' comment. I did find the nutrition thing interesting, though i see no diff..........haha i did try it out a week ago and suddenly it appears here.

well...my lp's strings can last pretty long even though i do not wipe down after playing...probably the 2 thirsty hippo packets inside the hardcase is doing a really good job

same problem

dude, i got the same problem too man, after putting strings, it rust like hell for the next 7 days, although i always keep in my casing after use and clean the strings with the Dunlop Fast-fret.
someone please help me....
thanks

Hmm.

For me my method of applying the string cleaner (stringlife in my case) is to have a nice medium-sized cloth (bandana-sized), dab the cloth with the string cleaner, wipe down the strings, and then insert the cloth between the strings and the frteboard and wipe the UNDERNEATH of the strings as well. Then I just leave the bandana between the strings, wrap up strings including the whole neck with the bandana and put it on my guitar stand.

whew.

I used to use Ernie Balls and they were alright, but now I've switched to B-52s, still using gauge 9-46, maybe it's my strumming attack but after 2 weeks, they sound slightly dead.
