strengthening the pinkie

hey ppl

i play the bass for my band, and all this while i avoid using the pinkie (the smallest finger) of my fretting hand while playing as it is weak... the result is limited speed and poor technique!

aside from playing 12 hours daily  , what else can be done to improve my finger strength?

i've seen the gripmaster before, is it effective?

Well, regardless of all the exercises, tips and tricks you learn.

The main thing is still

"practice practice practice"

12 hours is extreme ..... but 30mins a day is good.

The "lack of pinkie" use is, like, one of the worst misuse of ur own resources... learning to use the pinkie is a valuable asset.... unlocks many many doors for you.

The road will be hard but the fruits will be sweet...

ouch...12hrs...becareful now...dont injured ur wrist bro......

alternating inbetween strings would help...start with the higher frets...
another thing is the positioning of ur left hand...

some anchor their thunmb while others pivot it on the fretboard..
just get comfortable...and practice...gd luck...

i heard of this technique of warming up.. perhaps it'll help in training.

same as the chromatic scale exercise.. except that for each fret, hold your finger for a good long 10 sec or so. do it for every finger and string, and back down again.

i get impatient sometimes too.. but effort reaps results.. soon u'll be the next jaco? lol..
