Wanted to have some silent jamming. But when i plugged my headphones into headphone jack in amp, why does the sound sound so trembly?.. its like totally different from the sound i always hear thru the amp speakers and it SUCKS. Like it lost its mids and bass.

Anyone got the same experience as me? HELP

yeah headphones make a sound difference, because they act as the speaker when plugged in. just try different headphones

nah i dun think is headphone problem. im using a sennheiser hd201. sounds fugly. tot was headphone prob so used my apple earpiece and a few others + cheap ones. all sound fugly.... issit suppose to sound exactly like wad u hear thru amp speakers or is this fugly noise normal??

HELP AGN

i tried it thru mp3>amp>headphones sounds fine. (i used adapters)
just a note.
i think issit the guiatar signal that cannot be played by headphone speakers?

dont fret, its normal. i remember the days i was shocked when i heard the nasal shit tone

hey LIT, thx at least i feel better now knowing someone has been in the same shit as i am. Dang there goes bedroom silent jamming.really cant play with this sound. Btw why issit like that??

haha glad i helped. im guessing that the headphone dont get the headroom that speakers have, well if it makes sense

It's the driver size. Smaller drivers tend to not release the lower frequencies well. Wonder why the pros here always recommend bigger speakers for amps? Haha. Guitar signals are not supposed to driven by head/earphones.

(every sentence, put "I think" in front)

1tczx : in my layman terms "recording" lingo .

what you're most likely hearing when you jam is :

guitar > pedal > amp (head/preamp) > amp speaker cone > ears

a.k.a

jeng > zhengngg (distortion) > BZzheahhh > DRAAANGGGGGGG!!!! > shiok.

what you're hearing when you plug into the headphones is :

guitar > pedal > amp (preamp) > headphones > ears

jeng > zhengng (distortion) > BZZeahh > wtf , no shiok.

do you have a cabinet simulator? anything line6 or even a zoom 505 II would be great. try this :

guitar > pedal > amp (preamp) > cabinet simulator > headphones .

Ooops, the pro here has spoken, but I still THINK my point has some truth to that.

BPS: What about the power amp? You don't need that unless you need it LOUD, is it? So there's a need for cabinet simulator.. Maybe that explains why the sound suck through headphones from my korg mfx.

By the way, I love how you refer to the headphone as "wtf".

haha i'm an audio prostitute.

what theunknown says has a point but more on "guitarist lingo".

theunknown : I don't know about poweramps cos I don't have one , but yeah I believe power amps are more for "power" literally, electricity. cabinet simulator is more for DI recording but ideal if you got a killer preamp head but a shitty speakercone.

Hi mod , Im using a Vox PathFinder 15r btw.
Hi BPS so do u mean that the diff between,

guitar > pedal > amp (head/preamp) > amp speaker cone > ears
jeng > zhengngg (distortion) > BZzheahhh > DRAAANGGGGGGG!!!! > shiok.
and
guitar > pedal > amp (preamp) > headphones > ears
jeng > zhengng (distortion) > BZZeahh > wtf , no shiok.

is because of my headphone speaker incapability of being a amp speaker cone that is 'close to my ears'?
In that case why issit so when u can hear more 'sophisicated' sound on ur headphones? (guitar vocals drums bass) thru ur mp3? what causes the nasal fugly tone?

i do not know wads a cab simulator. Care to explain what does it technically do to the sound signal>?

yes there's a difference.

with the headphones, you're trying to use the "speakers" on the headphones to replace the amp speaker cone.visualize a waterpressure system to an output, if the output is a huge canal "vomitting" out gallons of water, that's like your amp.
but if the output leads to a small water tap, no matter how powerful the water pressure system, it's still only gonna spurt out a concentrated small "string" of water. this is like your headphones.

software cab simulators (or digital cab sim) like line6/amplitube or guitar rig
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b-K5sweFLc

hardware cab sim is like the palmer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLfDHN9NU8Q

but most pedalboard processors line6 /korg ax3000 / zoom etc has digital cabinet simulators. so line out from those direct into headphones or soundcard gives a normal sound instead of the skinny distortion as if your guitar is plugged into a microwave.

so in general cabinet simulator by now you'll realise it's "fake speakercone". self explanatory : flight simulator = "fake aeroplane flight"

BPS: Yeap. What I know is that preamps amplify signals to an audible level, thus you still can hear something with just a preamp > earphone. However like I mentioned about bigger speakers able to "release" the lower frequencies better is similar to your water tap analogy. Maybe a cab simulator processes the signal to the optimum equalisation that normal guitar amp speakers usually have?

i'm not sure about the details of that, the only thing I just know is that if your miked up sound sucks compared to a cab.sim. then use the cabsim for recording hehehe

Mr. Blueprint

i would like to ask you a question regarding the Line 6 products, since i'm having the same problem when jamming late at night and would like to have a cabinet simulator as well.

Is POD Studio GX or GUITAR PORT a cabinet simulator?

thx very much

boyl : to answer your question : yes.
and to thank you for asking nicely.

jammin' through headphones.

even the one I saw at citymusic.. there's a "Vox amplug" or something like that that goes directly into your guitar is a "cab sim" if you wanna bypass all that computer DAW hoohah.

basically "Cabinet simulator" is like a "software version" of owning a real guitar amp. it doesn't sound as convincing or shiok as the real thing, but like you said, for late nights or convenience.
