strange instrument???

there was a Dream theater concert where by john myung used it b4. cant rem which one it is though..sorry..could be the budokan one

Watch some LTE vidoes, Tony Levin uses the chapman stick. John Myung utilizes it also in a couple of songs i think.

Play by just "touching" the strings. Essentially it's tapping, but it's very responsive apparently, and thus u have to vary the tapping/touching to get the dynamics out.

Usually split into 2 parts, the bass side and the melody side. So u can do some cool bassline + melody playing.

Wiki for it to find out more ;)

the idea is more like playing a piano.

Left and right hand coordination, bass chords and melody and so on.

it's pretty cool. Sounds nice too; can run efx like chorus and reverb and stuff like that like a guitar.

searching it on youtube gives pretty good results

try the band King Crimson...they have this instrument :D...but i dun hear much of it in the songs...but yeah..check that band out ;)

at first when i watched KC vids..i thought it was a 12-string bass 8O

lol, this looks like a sitar

hmmm i dont suppose there are any chapman stick players among us or in singapore??

my sis is kinda interested in the stick since shes a pianist.

As far as I know...

Stu from Syne Of Tyme(YAY!!!!) has got a chapman stick... or two.

Held one before and man... its a totally new instrument to learn. Pickups are very responsive.
