what I do is I took out all the compartments of my old freezer and Put my whole guitar in it together with two layers of faux fur. That way my guitar is always dry and cool and doesn't suffer from bacteria infection.
yeah right.
what I do is I leave it on the stand cuz I play from wake to sleep. So if I were to put the guitar in the case it would only as I sleep so doesn't make any difference.
Guys note our friend said "guitar" not "guitars". I think he owns one guitar probably which he plays actively. For me I find the process of taking the guitar out of the case everyday more hazardous than the risks of putting it on a stand.
Just don't expose to weather it should be fine. Don't leave it near the window, if you do please shut the windows and the curtains when you sleep especially now the weather is so rainy and crap. Stuff like dust and sweat, just wipe them down, I do it twice everyday before dinner and before sleep. My guitar has a textured finish so I have no needs to polish it.
However if your guitar is gloss like my old one I like to wipe it with a very fine cloth like silver cloth or it would dull( I ended up sanding the gloss of cuz it's hard to maintain, now it looks like it's been through a thousand drunk shredders). Also don't leave your sweat marks on the gloss. Body sweat will become greasy stains if you leave it on for too long!
If you play your guitar everyday, the thing you should be cleaning is your hands not your guitar. LMAO cuz your hands touch it so much all the dust is on your hands. Don't play after you eat, I find that char kway teow really destroys the smooth feel of a bare neck. If you leave it for a few days in a case, make sure you don't leave a shitload of sweat on or by the end of 1 week you'd get a piece of cheese instead.
Bottom line ia, playing at home your guitar doesn't need heavy physical protection unless you have baby brothers and sisters or rabbits( mine chewed my amp corners and strap leather off) and dogs. Just make sure you wipe everyday so you don't have dust/sweat collection which are harder to clean the longer you leave it! Use cotton buds for hard to reach areas etc under the nut, and take advantage of string changing time to clean the fret boards so you don't get green and brown stuff near the corners. If you've multiple guitars, only the one you're playing should be out on stands the rest keep in case like the others said
and doomzz is right, cloth does help. They do that with big amps also. If you have the space, lay your guitars on the floor and cover with cloth or just pad on the soft cover ( I do that with one of my guitars).
Hope that helps, btw this isn't some museum setup. If you're afraid camera flash or fluorescent bulbs will damage your finish, put in freezer and cover with black cloth.
