Stacking for leads

Was just wondering what a good pedal to stack with a fulldrive 2 for a sustainey lead tone is. i've heard good things about the OCD and all but want to hear what everyone has to say. have a crunchbox now and i have to say it doesn't stack well with the fulldrive 2 at all.

Hmm.

It depends on what kind of music you play... classic rock, metal, funk, instrumental, prog?

The EQ settings you have also play a very important part. I usually got for a clear, crunchy sound with lower gain. I would use a gain booster with less gain, more volume and with a brighter tone setting... then when I hit the gain pedal the lead sound basically sounds the same, but with more gain, thicker and brings out harmonics much more.

My gain booster of choice? OM Labs Sahasrara OD.

i would recon that the crunchbox is way better then the ocd. The clarity on the crunchbox is alot better. ocd sounds like someone speaking with a mask on to me.

Have you tried the other tricks to get sustainy lead?
Personally i love turning on my delay and eq pedal when i need to do a solo. The delay is just enuff to hear some minimal feedback with a delay of say a quaver long? i duno.. try listening to your idol and see how they normally use their delay pedal. It's common among my idols though. The eq i use to boost both vol and shape the sound a little. Most of the time if you stack some other gain pedal, you'll end up a diff tone from where you originally were. Eq can solve this prob and infact gives you a better boost on freq you need, eg to scoop it alittle more or bring the treble down while bass up.

A similar-to-the-fulldrive2 pedal would do the trick. Just pick another tubescreamer.

Or run a fuzz (preferably a Fuzz Face) into the FD2. You get a more Eric Johnson kind of smooth tone.

MrMisse has a boutique clone of the OD1 (I think) sitting around somewhere (I think) and its going for $100.

Frankly, its nothing much but if you absolutely need a compressed tone that reminisce of the 70s... okay.

I've had good results boosting my Fulldrive2 with my Mao VS9, tubescreamer variant.

As well as my huckleberry:cool:

Hmmmm if u want the fulldrive sound but with more sustain i will say use a gd compressor, stacking works as well but may colour the original tone of the full drive. Since the full drive already has a boost just try putting a compressor before it, this may do the trick for u!

i prefer the OCD for lower gain and the crunchbox for higher gain. both are completely different animals in my book. OCD has more bottom end and harmonics than the crunchbox tho. got really good results stacking the ocd with my ts9dx.
