a couple of weeks ago i got my JEM JR restrung at "DAVIDS" at peninsula(minus one letter, i'm not naming any shop you see)
oh damn. you know what they did? D:
they screwed the back screws of the trem all the way in,
making the trem not movable(stuck to the body). -_-
and then still said
"eh, i think you need new stronger strings. cause your springs not strong enough."
srsly, wth; he ruined my baby's innards and still complain my guitar,
and charged me extra $$ for "adjustments".
then i had to teach him how to restring and loosen the tension on the back springs, PROPERLY.
and i wasted time a few hours there. -_-
and you know what? during the restring, he broke the first string(NEW)
and he changed one of a different color for me. making the strings look.
GREEN all cept one blue.
i don't think i'm going there to get anything unless someone tells me something nice.
i wanna get an ESP, but then again,
i rather order direct from ESP Japan than get it from them.
who knows, they could ruin my guitar even before it reaches my hands.

it took me awhile to consider whether i should post this,
until i saw the customer service thread, i decided to.

maybe someone from this shop can contact me?

WHAT????ID HAND ANY OF MY GUITARS TO DAVIS,EVEN MY WHOLE RACK RIG IS WITH ONE OF THEIR GUYS.THATS HOW MUCH I TRUST THEM.

Ive sent all my guitars to them
to installl a GOLD OFR or intonate.
ive done like 4 intonations in the past month to see how the various guages feel and they did a great job.I dont see how yours went wrong ???
I sent my thrashing guitar my ibanez to install a OFR and do a whole rewiring and i mean the pots are really nice and it works awesomely.

Im telling you everyone there are great people and they surely know what their doing.

who was the one who did your guitar restringing???

Bro, this is why it's good to be there to watch when any work is being done to your guitar.

The guitar techs/luthiers who don't mind the owner standing there are: Malcolm, Beez, Mike (Standard Value). I'm sure there are more but haven't had first hand experience.

If you really want to 'protect' your guitar, go to either of the abovementioned techs. Malcolm does charge a premium, but he does quality work. For wiring work and such, I would highly recommend Mike and Beez.

I wanted to get some rewiring done at Davi(d)s the last time, and asked to speak to the tech to give him detailed instructions (I had a specialized wiring scheme in mind), and this is what happened:

Me: Hi, may I speak to the technician so I can brief him on the job?
Boss: No, he's not here right now.
Me: Oh, where is he?
Boss: He's at the workshop.
Me: Where's the workshop?
Boss: A few units away.
Me: So can I go there and speak to him?
Boss: No.
Me: Then how will he know my requests?
Boss: You must let him assess the problem.
Me: But my guitar is NOT SPOILT, I just want to get some wiring done.
Boss: You must let him assess the problem.
Me: Thank you (Proceeds to walk out of the shop)

I eventually went to Beez to get the job done, and was more or less satisfied.

In all fairness though, Davi(d)s does have good prices, sometimes even cheaper than musiciansfriend after conversion. I usually just walk in, ask for what I want, pay for it, and leave. I have had good customer service from Janet though, but the other staff either do not know the products, or are just plain unfriendly (My own opinion, may not be wholly conclusive).

Let's not mention the times when 'testing a guitar' meant 3 strums without a pick, and not being allowed to test the pickups with the drive channel.

However, at the end of the day, we either boycott them and pay a premium for shipping stuff in, or grin, bear it, and ignore the service. We can't expect everyone to be like Brendon, Beez or City Music

em... did you ask around for the best place to re-string before actually sending your instrument there?

i urge everyone to learn to re-string their own instrument(s) (no offence to TS: i would have done a one-off re-stringing for you FOC, terms & conditions apply, of course...).

Yeah right... Davis' customer service is top notch............... ZzzZZZzzzzzzzZZzzzzzz the old manager is so00ooooo helpful.

lol.

Seriously, the only good thing there is the pretty Indonesian/ Malay (?) chick... and the other Chinese hottie. That's all... oh yeah, the strings too.

^ Indonesian/ Malay chick?. I've never seen her before. Only the chinese one, that's what making me go to there.

Yeah... I can't decipher if she's an Indonesian or not but definitely not a Chinese. The one with the long hair....

I sometimes feel dumb asking the Chinese girl some guitar techy questions since I don't think she understands what I'm trying to say... but never mind, it's all about the looks!!! :D

When I have my own guitar business, I'll only hire Hotties!!!!

urgh get a life people, let's keep this on topic because every god damn thread about that shop ALWAYS gets pointed in her direction by some desperate dude or another.

I dont know if you are referring to the girl i think, but if you are...her knowledge far exceeds many on this forum regarding the products davids sell....so ask away with no problems...

To the OP, I learnt this lesson the hard way as well many many years ago....I sent my ibanez to Davids, I didnt stick around to see them set it up....when I got it back...my bridge was at a 30 degree angle...you can just imagine the action....i asked for the guy who set it up....some random guy whom i had never seen at davids before...probably a part timer.... i am pretty sure he had never worked on a floating bridge before....anyways...lesson learnt....since then...i take my guitars to malcolm....and even though i dont need to watch malcolm...i make it a point to...because watching him work teaches me things that i cant pickup from the internet or a book....

I still shop at Davis though....if i am nice and ask politely...they are nice and reply politely...no problems with service nowadays....

damn these kinda threads regarding customer service for THIS PARTICULAR shop is countless.

but i sent my guitar there before because of a terribly screwed up neck. and this bald shiney head malay guy (no offence i just dont know how to describe) did up my guitar superb. fantastic job. when i came back into the shop he was adjusting the intonation cos he said he noticed it was out. and that wasnt even what i sent it for. well, then again, i sent it to them in the late morning, when it just opened and no one was there. so could be he had a lot of free time.

however, when their store is packed, they still provide decent service. the middle aged dude. the 2 beautiful girls (not the auntie) still bother to answer my queries properly and whole heartedly. it seems that ppl are having problems with THE BOSS himself. which is an utter disgrace because he's suppose to lead by example. i asked him abt the availability of gibson truss rod covers before. he ignored me. so i asked the pretty girl.

well, my take is dont like their service, dont patronize them. but because of their killer prices, some ppl still patronize them regardless of how bad the service is. actually, its only that grumpy old boss thats causing the problem. so, stay away from him. ask someone else

and yeah. all threads abt davis always mention abt that girl man. i guess its really unavoidable to bring her up.

 lol. you people are so serious here... relax...

Sheesh... I'm not a perv dude or anything. I'm a happy married man... with a cute kid.

Outta here...

when i go there, the only stuff that catches my attention are the guitars and the stuff behind the counter. i said 'stuff', not people.
sure sometimes their service isn't up to standard but at least it's fine by me. as long as i get what i want, i'm happy.

the old lady always seems to accidentally overcharge the stuff i wanna get. luckily i tell her the mistake before i walk out.

Well they certainly are not the place to go for setup services.

Their prices are good though. And they have a niche for certain products. Take it for what its worth.
