sure why not?

but do note that the spray paint may crack after a period of time.

and its a lot of work to properly spray up a guitar.

you'll need to prepare the original surface by sanding it, spray primer, sand flat, spray colour, sand flat, spray clear, sand flat to fine sanding, use swirl remover paste, polishing paste.

If just for fun... buy your colour of choice and just anyhow whack. since its not worth a proper paint job. :D

I did DIY.... A real paint in the ass, when u tot the paint is dry, but it really is not hard yet.

The spray paints take at least 2 mths b4 being hard... Alot of sanding, alot of waiting, alot of coats, and if ur preparation of the wood is not gd, the paint shows it all.

But it sure is fun and fulfilling.

I hated the colour of my strat, so i tried and it turned out relic...

Its been abt a yr, and the paint is still hardening.

Some paint like poly dry faster and are thicker... Do bare in mind sme health concerns abt some of the paints, like one i came across that have a disclaimer that says it contain chemical that increase the chance of cancer, n r harmful to pregnant ladies, and will lower the furtility of the person... No shit man

Like Edder said do a search on google... The down side is alot of colours or products u read r not available here.

must prepare original surface?
i mean,if i juz buy the $5 spray paint from art friend/popular
n juz spray some of it here n ther over the black paint on the guitar...will it affect anything...?

dude, read the websites if you want to get a proper job done.

if not.... use ICI dulux with a caligraphy brush also can paint.

dude...
you've got balck as ur base paint ...
if you do dat ... the paint you spray on might not be the exact colour ~

if you wanna do the lazy method ...
"score" the varnish on ur guitar with rough sandpaper ...~
buy basecoat paint from artfriend ... it's white ..~
paint afew coats on ... den sand with a "higher" (less abrasive) sandpaper, till the base coat is even , flat & smooth,
den ... spray ur choice of colour ... ~

i call this the lazy method coz ... it took me 2 weeks just to sand (by hand) the varnish and paint off my guitar ... ~

the most frustrating part is the varnish ..
sand den spray .. den sand .. den spray ... den sand ... den spray again ...
den more sanding .... den fine sanding ... den superfine sanding ...(sorry duno the tehnical terms)

and if dirt or flying objects gets on it during any of the spray "drying" period ... you're back at square 1 ...~

it takes alot of time and patience to repaint a guitar properly ...
dude ... unless it's just for fun's sake ... i suggest you leave it to the pros .. who have the proper tools and know how ...~

why repaint? scrapped off the paint and apply oil stain. A guy in jemsite did it. I love un-laquered natural color guitar. No worry of finger print, no worry of scratches, no worry of chip or ding

Smart ..~!
but still need to sand coz his guitar is black..~
and you'd still need abit of finish or treatment ... wait u get caught in the rain and ur guitar grow mushrooms ~

But ... if your electric is made of compressed wood ... better to repaint ~
Even better ,.... dun do anything ...~

Ha ~!

so nicely put ... lololol ~
But it's the Truth ~!
:)

Hehe, look at my signature :) Spray painted base coats then brushed on acrylic paint.

If you are applying solid color, u dun have to strip of the existing paint. Just scuff it down with some sandpaper, so that the new paint would better adhere.

wat if i'm spraying my guitar like how i sprayed my tamiya cars(u kno...those toy cars)...or like how some skaters spray on the underside of their decks, wher the graphics on it...

wat if? then do it lor!

mi yamaha i have now is spray painted, 1 can of spraypaint over the original laquer, no sanding, and now it kinda looks like a fender satin strat

juz put the guitar on a stool, and over newspaper(a few layers), first,

paint the top, and give it a very light coat
wait 10 minutes
den give it another coat
den wait another 10 minutes
epeat 4-5 times
after you think color is good enough, den leave it to dry for 3 hours

then do the bottom, and repeat above steps

then do the side

remember to always give very light coats, and keep the nozzle at least 30cm away from the surface of your guitar while spraying

hope this helps, and disclaimer, do at your own risk, my risk paid off

Better to use a clothes hanger ...
pry it apart, make a kindofa hook...
den (if yous is a bolt-on neck) can suspend the body ~
dat way .. can spray both sides at the same time,
the paint is more even also ...~

dude ...
Did you "score/scrape" the finish of the guitar 1st ,
put a layer of base coat ???

gotta tell you ...
spray paint chips really easily ... 1 can is not gonna be enough~
also ... 10mins btw coats for spray paint might be sufficient ...
but if you doing varnish or lacquer ... should leave it for abt a week after each coat ~
not doing so ... would result in "cracks" after afew mths ... ~

As for the Tamiya style painting ...
like Edder said ... can try lor ... ~
who knows ... might work for you ...?
different ppl got different style ...
but .... might not look professional ... ~

i kinda like the idea of dupon paint with calligraphy pen~
  haha   ~

but read the sites ....
seach google for more stuff ...

the most important part is the finish ...~
takes damn long ... and cocks up easy ... ~
I believe the sites teach you how to do it properly ... and how to deal with mistakes ~

Have fun ... ~

:D *CHEERS* :D
