Some questions on pedal setting and arrangement?

Hi guys,
these are my current setting:

1. Boss Compressor Sustainer
2. Tubescreamer overdrive
3. Crybaby Wah
4. Sansamps GT2

and i've position them according to the the sequence above.
And i'm not sure if this is the best way to arrange them.

I observed that the Compressor Sustainer can be used by itself or together with Overdrive (and Wah), but somehow when i use it together with GT2, i get very loud humming. Is it meant this way or somethins is wrong?

Next is the Wah wah, should i place it before or after GT2? Often i see pedalboards, the Wah is at extreme right hand side, i suppose the intend is to save space and some wiring is done to connect the Wah as required. I'm really unsure whether the Wah should be connected first or not.

Anyway, I think the positioning and connection part is tricky because, the the arrangement of the Wah can look as if its the first but, the wiring of the pedal could have make it otherwise :)

On top of these pedal i have, what else do i need to complete the setup?
(I know you will start asking what are my influences... i play rock stuff and i am looking for a versatile setup so that i can play some metal stuff or blues when required :P)

Anyway, i know there is not right or wrong answers... its all personal preference. So hope u guys can advise me to make the best out these pedal i have :)

Cheerios

My preference is:

3. Crybaby Wah
1. Boss Compressor Sustainer
2. Tubescreamer overdrive
4. Sansamps GT2

Just a slight deviation from goose's.

The Compressor after wah is interesting... you can get funky quacks easily, coz usually, wahs have this volume boost as you wah, so it causes amps to break up, which is a no-no when you want quacky funk.

Ye hear?

just imho.

the arrangement can be in such way of linking

1) Do i want the compressor first, after the guitar. So that i can have the signal compressed first before sending it to od, distortion, wah etc

2) If i have the distortion/OD first, after the guitar, i wud use that to let the volume control on the guitar to control volume and gain variation, before having the signal going into the compressor and to wah.

3) With the wah first, basically the tone straight from guitar will be altered and then going into the the od distortion. It works for some, it might not work, depending on taste.

4) do i want to overdrive the distortion or distort the overdrive before compressing or compressing the overall signal before going into the overdrive then to distortion etc.

hehe, not confusing i hope.

The difference all in sound and preference which can be hard to write in words. Iam just trying. If it doesnt make sense, coz i havent have my lunch yet

Thanks for the feedback :)

So if you guys were to improve on this setup, what would you be adding to the pedalboard?

I'm going for a EHX Deluxe Memory Man, cos it have got chorus and delay.

What about you? :)

Keep the posts coming...

yes definitely a delay for soloing, and chorus too, for nice cleans.

i would get an EQ pedal to alter EQ for different tones.

for flangers, tremolo, phasers, imo no need for now unless ur music requires and u noe how to use them

:D

Bro,
I found out that placing the compressor sustainer last will lower the volume.
Same for placing wah first will lower the volume, but its still acceptable.

Agree to that...
too much = heavy + complicated!

Complicated because i dunno how to use haa!

:smt017 It works for me !! Might be you are playin at low volume on yer amp ...crank er up bit more mate !!
Tell you what...best get to know what each pedal does ...then you will be enlightened on your pedal placement query !!

Yes please, get to know your pedals.... google compressor, wah pedal, distortion...

Fly to forums, jemsite, TGP, SOFT, sevenstring.org... ANYTHING.

Read read read... know what you have, what it does...

Then go jam.

pre gain...

It reacts dynamically with my picking to give it a pseudo wah sound...

After gian, my tone basically becomes this huge phasing sound.. not too keen on that.
