i was checking out my crates of CD's and came across the Big O New School Rock CD series. from series 1 all the way to 4! these CD's are treasures for me! i was downloading them to my iPod and thought of sharing some of the good stuff with u guys. there are a lots more bands on those four cd's, and all of them are damned good. but here a few of my favs as there are just too many to put here. i believe the Local Music scene was at a peak then. and it was good that we have Big O mag then, and lots of good gigs, especially at Substation. before anyone starts complaining about guitar tones/efx etc. try to remember that this was in the 90-94 period and not in the digital era of today. hope u guys enjoy this!
Song About Caroline - The Oddfellows
not from the New School Rock series but from a single released by Big O. check out Patrick Chng singing "Caroline is an asshole!!!) it was in 1990-1991, and surprisingly it was not banned.
Crawl Out Alive - Opposition Party
from series one. they were still playing thrash then. kind of reminds me of Death Angel's Frolic Through The Park. they are very much alive today.
Divided We Fall - Stompin' Ground
from series two. LCHC at its finest. hafiz is the best! i wouldn't want to miss a chance to watch them then! they opened for Rollins Band and Fugazi (twice).
For Peace - ESP
from series three. i vaguely remember their music vid on tv.
D.O.T. - Rocket Scientists
from series three. this is industrial. singapore answer to Godflesh. if u love Nine Inch Nails, u might like this.
Somethingshappening - The Mothers
from series three. one of the best indie bands then. listen to this to believe!
Back In Time - Goofy Grooves
from series four. they remind me of Ugly Kid Joe somehow.
Endangered Nation - Ossuary
from series four. one of the tightest bands then. best to experience them live. singapore answer to Metallica and Megadeth then.
