Software that SINGS JAPANESE SONGS (must listen!)

OK anime fans, here's something REALLY interesting - to the ears.

We all heard about Yamaha's Vocaloid engine - basically lets a person programs songs that are sung. It's really nothing exciting compared to the samples out there (like VOTA, the Bela D's solo female voices, and the new EW's Voices of Passion). It just doesn't quite match up.

But now they used the engine and came up with a female Japanese voice. It's called Katsune Miku. In 2 weeks, there's a backlog of 3000 orders in Japan.

Some of the demos (as expected from Vocaloid) isn't that impressive. But with careful mixing, it is pretty impressive, like this demo:

(their demo 3 is not too bad either. Demo 2 is the least realistic).

Sorry, didn't realised you posted this before. I thought Katsune Miku is pretty new. Vocaloid is not new of course, and not very inspiring. Vocaloid is just the engine - people can take that engine and develop their own libraries (giving royalties to Yamaha, of course).

I think the strength of making it Japanese is because of the type of music people usually write for this kind of voice (ie female, not so pro singing style, teenager voice). Somehow, anime type of music uses these kind of voices. And because they are not aiming for Celine Dion type voices, these "cutey female voices" can be emulated easier with software.

If you want to emulate pro singing, there's no way vocaloid can do it. In fact, there's no way any software can do it except for a real singer.

By the way, heard that they used a 16 year old girl's voice for Katsune Miku.

hm...
was wondering will it take long time to programme the singing if we buy it.
or just simply enter lyrics as shown?
